Maximize resources for union development
According to the report of the Hai Phong City Labor Federation, in the first 9 months of 2024, the city newly established 159/100 grassroots unions (reaching 159% of the annual plan); newly developed 37,075 union members, of which the actual increase in union members was 26,004/30,000 (reaching 87% of the annual plan and 94% of the plan assigned by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor). Many units achieved high targets such as the Hai Phong Economic Zone Trade Union newly established 47/15 grassroots unions (313% of the plan), Vinh Bao District Labor Federation 12/5 grassroots unions (240% of the plan), Ngo Quyen District Labor Federation 18/8 grassroots unions (225% of the plan).
Ms. Dinh Thi Thuy Ha - Chairwoman of the Hai Phong Economic Zone Trade Union - shared: Up to now, 100% of workers in industrial zones are union members. Not only official workers, but also workers on probation who have not paid social insurance have been mobilized by grassroots unions to write applications to join the organization.
“The experience of the Economic Zone Trade Union is to propagate and mobilize all enterprises that are qualified to establish a Trade Union, regardless of whether the enterprise is large or small, or has many union members or not. Because from the establishment of the grassroots trade union, when the enterprise develops, expands production, and recruits more workers, that is the source for the trade union to develop union members,” said Ms. Ha.
By the end of September, Tien Lang District Labor Federation had exceeded the target of developing union members, but this unit continued to mobilize and increase the actual number of union members in 2024.
“In early October, we conducted work, propaganda, and mobilization in enterprises that have not yet established a trade union organization and those that have a trade union organization but still have many workers who are not union members. As a result, the District Labor Federation mobilized the establishment of 3 more grassroots trade unions, developing more than 700 union members in October, reaching 215.3% of the target of developing union members in 2024,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Chairwoman of the District Labor Federation.
Not only exceeding the target of developing union members and establishing grassroots unions, Vinh Bao District Labor Federation also took the lead in establishing grassroots unions including Tan Lien commune container truck drivers union with 97 union members and private preschool teachers union with 55 union members.
Some other units are also in the process of propagating and mobilizing the establishment of grassroots unions, such as the Hai Phong Industry and Trade Union establishing a union for sales staff at stores in shopping malls or the District Labor Federation establishing a union for truck drivers and technology drivers...
Support businesses in recruiting workers to develop union members
To continue developing union members in the fourth quarter of 2024 and prepare for 2025, the Hai Phong Economic Zone Trade Union is reviewing businesses that have been licensed to do business, are building headquarters, and recruiting workers to have a source to establish grassroots unions and develop union members.
Through review, there are more than 50 factories under construction in industrial zones, forecasting the need for thousands of workers. Many businesses operating in industrial zones are also in need of recruiting a large number of workers. The Economic Zone Union connects businesses with recruitment needs, posts job postings on social networking platforms, both supporting businesses in recruiting workers and creating a source for union member development.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Chairman of Hai Phong City Labor Federation - said: In the fourth quarter of 2024, the City Labor Federation will continue to direct the grassroots trade unions to continue to focus on completing the 2024 targets, focusing on the targets of developing union members and union finances. In particular, regarding the development of union members, units will focus all resources, focusing on establishing a number of labor unions with the same profession.
Along with that, Hai Phong City Labor Federation does a good job of taking care of the lives of union members and workers, especially during the Lunar New Year 2025.
