Enterprises use many "tricks" yet still struggle to hire labor
To serve the need for expanding production, Thong Nhat Swimwear Manufacturing Co., Ltd., located at Suoi Dau Industrial Park, Cam Lam District, Khanh Hoa Province, has been continuously posting job recruitment information in recent times. However, the number of job applicants is relatively small.
In addition to attracting employees through salary and benefit policies, enterprises also give gifts to workers who introduce workers who can sew and learn to sew into the company. From 2,000 workers before the pandemic to the present, the company has only over 1,400 workers, and this number is at risk of decreasing as labor turnover increases towards the end of the year.
According to Mrs. Ho Thi Phuong Dai, Human Resources Director of Thong Nhat Swimwear Manufacturing Co., Ltd., the difficulty in hiring workers in the industrial park is a common problem, especially in the garment industry. This is also a difficult problem that has been reflected many times but has not been resolved.
Also in the situation of labor shortage, Thuy San Production Co., Ltd., specializing in producing aquatic products, has had to lower the recruitment standards for workers who have been absent for a year to 3 months to have workers. Mrs. Nguyen Hong Tu, Director of Thuy San Production Co., Ltd., said that labor turnover is frequent, and the company has organized recruitment in Ninh Thuan Province and Khánh Vĩnh District, but still cannot meet the demand.
Difficult due to changing trends and labor mindset
According to the statistics of the Khánh Hoa Province Industrial Park and Export Processing Zone Trade Union, the average monthly income of workers in the industrial park for the first 6 months of the year is 6 million dong. Statistics from the Khánh Hoa Province Job Service Center show that the average monthly income of workers in the province for the first 6 months of 2024 is over 7.3 million dong. This also shows that the income of workers is still at a low level, making workers less enthusiastic about working as laborers.
A survey by the Khánh Hoa Province Job Service Center on labor supply and demand in the province in the second quarter of 2024 showed that the demand for recruitment is 1,118 positions; the number of recruitment is 3,570 workers, and 6,105 workers have a need to find a job. The groups of industries with high recruitment demand are food processing, manufacturing, agriculture, forestry, and aquaculture... Unskilled laborers account for 60.67% of the recruitment demand, and 73% of enterprises recruit workers at a salary of 5-7 million dong per month.
In addition, the reality after the pandemic has seen a change in labor trends. According to the analysis of Mrs. Ho Thi Phuong Dai, the difficulty in hiring labor at present is also partly due to changing trends and labor mindset. Although garment work does not require very difficult technical skills, it requires discipline because it is a chain process. If a worker does not focus, it will affect many other workers, and many workers choose to work freelance to avoid being tied to time and working environment...
Sharing the same view, Mrs. Nguyen Hong Tu pointed out that laborers have a "survival" mindset, do not build stability, and have a tendency to jump from one place to another wherever the pay is higher, even if it's just a seasonal job. In the aquatic product processing industry, many enterprises are willing to pay high daily wages during the peak season, and many laborers see the high daily wage and jump to another job without considering stability and long-term prospects...
Currently, in addition to the online and offline job fairs, the Khánh Hoa Province Job Service Center is also promoting many programs to connect supply and demand, connect training with practice from schools to enterprises. The Khánh Hoa Province Job Service Center also predicts that the labor demand in Khanh Hoa Province in the third quarter of 2024 will increase by 5-10% compared to the second quarter of 2024, focusing on industries such as agriculture, forestry, and aquaculture, accounting for 39.29%. Enterprises need to grasp the trends of the job market, focus on salary as a factor to attract applicants, and diversify additional rewards or financial sponsorships. On the other hand, workers need to continuously update information on the job market, trends, and requirements of employers to meet the demands of the new era. Especially, they need to grasp new working trends and apply AI to work to improve productivity...
