The initiative of 2 lecturers of Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy and colleagues has benefited nearly 6.5 billion VND, while bringing many other benefits.

Saving costs and time

The scientific topic "Developing Multiplex Real-time PCR technique and applying it in diagnosis and monitoring of anti-colistin bacteria in Thai Binh, 2022 - 2023" by author Nguyen Nam Thang and colleagues Le Viet Ha (Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy) is a provincial-level topic, accepted by the Scientific Council by the Department of Science and Technology of Thai Binh (formerly) in July 2024. Previously, in June 2023, Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy accepted part of the content of the topic as "Matiplex Real-time PCR Technical Process for Rapid detection of colistin-resistant Gen groups".

From the above time to May 2025, the Multiplex Real-time PCR technical process for rapid detection of anti-colistin gene groups has been applied to diagnose and study the circulation of anti-colistin bacteria in hospitals and in the community with 5,734 test samples.

According to author Nguyen Nam Thang, Multiplex Real-time PCR technology has many advantages over conventional Real-time PCR technology: testing time is shorter (2 hours compared to 3 hours); testing cost is cheaper (750,000 VND compared to 1,880,000 VND), and the technical process of testing is also much simpler.

From June 2023 to May 2025, this technique has been applied in diagnosis and research at the Center for Medical Sciences and Pharmaceutical Sciences for 5,734 samples and has saved the cost for each test sample by VND 1,130,000; the total profit is VND 6,479,420,000.

According to Mr. Nguyen Nam Thang, Multiplex Real-time PCR technology can be transferred to businesses in the pharmaceutical sector to produce biological products and commercialize them to bring more profits.

In addition, the application of Multiplex Real-time PCR technology also creates indirect economic benefits such as: The technique helps to quickly and accurately diagnose anti-colistin bacteria, thereby improving treatment effectiveness, reducing mortality rates, reducing hospital stay as well as treatment costs for patients; in the field of public health, the application of technology also helps improve the effectiveness of monitoring the circulation of khangistin col bacteria in the community, thereby taking measures to prevent the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria in the community, helping to reduce the risk of infections caused by resistant bacteria...

The application of Multiplex Real-time PCR technology has contributed to improving the quality of diagnosis and treatment of infections caused by gram negative colistin bacteria, helping to reduce mortality rates, reduce hospital stay as well as treatment costs for patients... - Mr. Nguyen Nam Thang said.

The union always supports authors with initiatives and creativity

Talking to reporters, Mr. Tran Manh Ha - Chairman of the Trade Union of Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy - said that the school's trade union always encourages the group of authors Nguyen Nam Thang, Le Viet Ha as well as other groups of authors in the school. Along with partial financial support, the school's Trade Union acknowledged the proposals and initiatives of the groups of authors; organized conferences to evaluate those initiatives before submitting them to the Vietnam Health Trade Union.

The school union always supports and creates conditions for union members to participate in implementing the creative labor movement, said Mr. Tran Manh Ha.

According to the Chairman of the school's Trade Union, the creative labor emulation movement originating from the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor is one of the very meaningful activities, encouraging cadres, civil servants, and scientists to promote their capacity, solve social problems as well as improve the quality of professional work and in all activities.

Mr. Tran Manh Ha said that it is the encouragement of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor that has contributed to motivating cadres, civil servants, and workers to always strive to have initiatives that contribute to the development process.
