Workers hope to soon increase regional minimum wages

Workers hope to increase the regional minimum wage because many policies "follow" this salary level.

Ms. Le Thi Hoa is currently a garment worker in Dong Anh district, Hanoi. Currently, Ms. Hoa has a salary of 6 million VND/month; plus extra work, food support... total income is about 9 million VND/month. Although the salary is 4,960,000 VND/month higher than the regional minimum wage, Ms. Hoa said that after each regional minimum wage increase, the enterprise has made a move to increase wages for employees.

In addition, according to Ms. Hoa, she hopes to increase the regional minimum wage because many workers are entitled to eat at this salary level.

In reality, businesses pay us a salary higher than the regional minimum wage, but when this salary is the basis, businesses will pay more spending. For each increase in the regional minimum wage, we have to increase our salary to some extent. The salary regime, overtime pay... the business where I work also uses this salary as a basis," said Ms. Hoa.

Mr. Le Van Linh is also receiving a regional minimum wage according to region 1 of 4.96 million VND/month. Mr. Linh currently works for a mechanical company in Quoc Oai district (Hanoi).

"I hope to increase the regional minimum wage to about VND 5,500,000/month to compensate for the increase in prices of many items. Recently, electricity prices have increased, and gasoline prices have also been adjusted to increase quite strongly. When the regional minimum wage is increased, our salaries will be more or less adjusted to increase, and food and welfare regimes will also increase accordingly, said Mr. Linh.

Talking to Lao Dong on June 26, Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment said that increasing the minimum wage is extremely necessary.

"It is necessary to evaluate the indicators to ensure the lives of workers. Increasing the minimum wage also needs to take into account regional factors, if possible, calculate all labor groups so that we can ensure the standard of living for workers attached to the enterprise, creating conditions for workers to ensure their lives," said Mr. Trung.

Regarding the increase, Mr. Le Quang Trung said that it is necessary to calculate, but the minimum level must be the same as the previous increase (6%).

The current regional minimum wage is stipulated in Article 3 of Decree 74/2024/ND-CP applied from July 1, 2024 as follows:

- Region 1 is 4,960,000 VND/month; 23,800 VND/hour.

- Region 2 is 4,410,000 VND/month; 21,200 VND/hour.

- Region 3 is 3,860,000 VND/month; 18,600 VND/hour.

- Region 4 is 3,450,000 VND/month; 16,600 VND/hour.

According to the Appendix issued under Decree 74/2024/ND-CP, districts in Hanoi belonging to regions 1 and 2 and the regional minimum wage in Hanoi in 2025 are determined as follows:

* Ba Dinh District, Cau Giay District, Dong Da District, Hai Ba Trung District, Thanh Xuan District, Hoang Mai District, Long Bien District, Hoan Kiem District, Ha Dong District, Tay Ho District, Nam Tu Liem District, Bac Tu Liem District, Gia Lam District, Dong Anh District, Soc Son District, Thanh Tri District, Thuong Tin District, Hoai Duc District, Thach That District, Quoc Oai District, Thanh Oai District, Me Linh District, Chuong My District, Son Tay Town (Area 1): 4,960,000 VND/month or 23,800 VND/hour.

* Ba Vi District, Dan Phuong District, My Duc District, Phuc Tho District, Phu Xuyen District, Ung Hoa District (Area 2): 4,410,000 VND/month or 21,200 VND/hour.
