Up to now, for the past 2 months, hundreds of workers at Vinh Thong Trading and Service Co., Ltd. (Tan Binh Industrial Park, Ho Chi Minh City) have not received their salary, causing many difficulties in their lives. Faced with the situation of working without pay, workers have stopped working collectively to collect unpaid wages.
In order to reduce the difficulties of workers, on February 21, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation were present at Vinh Thong Trading and Service Company Limited (Tan Binh Industrial Park, Ho Chi Minh City) to grasp the situation and support 1 million VND for 323 workers. 49 workers with serious illnesses, raising young children, and motherhood were also supported by the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation with an additional 1 million VND each.
According to the workers' feedback, Vinh Thong Trading and Service Company Limited currently owes 65% of the December 2024 salary and the entire January 2025 salary of the workers.
Before the Lunar New Year of At Ty, workers stopped demanding that the company pay their salaries to have living expenses, pay their rent, return to their hometowns and the company only advanced to each worker 35% of their salary for December 2024, and pledged to pay full wages after the workers returned to work after Tet. However, up to now, the workers have not received enough salary, so they have stopped working collectively.
Owed wages, the lives of Ms. Tran Thi Thuy (residing in Tan Phu District) and her family are in difficult circumstances. This is not an isolated case, but a common situation for many workers at this company. Ms. Thuy has been with the company for 12 years. "Workers' lives are very unstable, for the past 2 months I have had to save money to spend but not enough money to live on" - Ms. Thuy choked up as she shared.
Previously, Ms. Thuy's income was quite stable, about 9-10 million VND/month. During peak months, working overtime day and night, she can earn more. However, for the past two months, she has not received any money. On the morning of February 21, Ms. Thuy and many other workers came to the company to claim their rights, but they only received promises.
Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, a worker with 18 years of seniority at the company, said that the workers here are mainly unskilled workers, with an average income of about 8-9 million VND/month. During overtime months, they can earn 10-12 million VND. "After two months without salary, I have to pay rent. If it continues like that, it would be unwise for the landlord to chase my family out and lose everything" - Mr. Lam shared.
Currently, the City Labor Federation and relevant agencies are coordinating to protect the rights of workers.
