After Tet, many workers change jobs, looking for new opportunities to increase income, increase promotion opportunities... Experts give advice to this group of people.

Job hopping right after Tet

Right after Tet, Pham Quynh Anh (25 years old) - an office worker in Dong Da district (Hanoi) - decided to change jobs. The reason Quynh Anh gave was that the salary did not meet her living needs.

“I am looking for a job with higher salary, suitable for my ability and personal development orientation. I am only 25 years old, extroverted but office work is quite boring. I will look for a dynamic job, with a lot of communication and prioritizing a lot of traveling,” Quynh Anh said.

Quynh Anh also said that she is not afraid of facing great competition in the labor market because she knows that after Tet there is often a "wave" of job resignations, especially among young people.

"I think if you have the ability, desire and passion, you won't be afraid of unemployment," Quynh Anh affirmed.

Pham Ngoc Hung, from Ly Nhan district (Ha Nam), also decided to quit his job right after Tet. Ngoc Hung works in the media industry and realized that his job had no future, so he decided to quit his job right after Tet holiday at the end of 2024.

“I have been with my old company for 2 years, this job is no longer suitable for my development orientation. I also do not find joy in my work, every day I go to work is very tiring and lethargic. I decided to find another opportunity to develop my own capacity" - Ngoc Hung confided.

Ngoc Hung gave himself 1 month to find a job in Hanoi. If he doesn't find a satisfactory job, Ngoc Hung will go to Ho Chi Minh City at the invitation of his close friends.

“Ho Chi Minh City has a dynamic environment and many job opportunities in my field. I want to give myself more opportunities so that I won’t have any regrets later,” Ngoc Hung said excitedly.

Be proactive to get a good job

Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment, Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA) - said that changing jobs to find a job that is more suitable to the ability, capacity and conditions of oneself and one's family; having a better income; a better working environment... is the desire of many workers.

“However, to change jobs, workers need to pay attention to and evaluate their capacity and ability to meet the demands of the job; seek reliable information and recruitment needs of employers, preferably through employment service organizations or from direct employers; carefully consider all the pros and cons of moving to a new job, a new job with high salary and good benefits is not necessarily better than the current job, including the worst case scenario of losing the job; directly discuss in detail all issues related to the new job to consider and decide to change jobs; avoid scams and fraud in many forms,” Mr. Trung advised.

Mr. Vu Quang Thanh - Deputy Director of Hanoi Employment Service Center - said that in recent years, after Tet holiday, the labor market often has improved when the demand for human resources increases. Many businesses increase recruitment from the beginning of the year to proactively have human resources for production.

According to Mr. Thanh, right after the Lunar New Year 2024, the satellite job fair connecting 9 northern provinces had nearly 50,000 job positions in all fields and industries. Thus, job opportunities for workers are very open. It is expected that after the Lunar New Year 2025, the job fairs will also be quite active.

“The labor market has shown positive signs of recovery. Workers need to be careful when deciding to change jobs, proactively planning to ensure they have a job to fall back on without affecting their income,” said Mr. Thanh.
