Trade union coordinates with company to manage food safety and hygiene meals

Ms. Tran Thi Hong Van - Chairwoman of the Trade Union of Nissei Electric Vietnam Company (Linh Trung I Export Processing Zone, Ho Chi Minh City) - said that from October 2012, the grassroots trade union has coordinated with the company to establish the Nissei Food Care Association (NFC) including representatives of the company, the grassroots trade union and the health department to manage food safety and hygiene issues and meal quality. All members must participate in learning and be certified with food safety and hygiene certificates.

Every month, the NFC Association has the task of developing and preparing an operating plan for the following month and periodically and unexpectedly inspecting the process or actual operation of the company's dining hall. The Association also has the task of responding to emergency situations when food-related problems arise, reporting to superiors about incidents related to food safety and hygiene, and periodically evaluating the activities of each group and of the association.

To meet this task, the NFC Association has the right to request the restaurant to provide all documents and papers related to the origin of raw materials, ensuring food safety and hygiene; request to stop using processed or used food if problems are detected.

In particular, the NFC Association has the right to request the concentration of staff responsible for food safety and hygiene to respond when problems need to be resolved; request the restaurant to store samples when suspecting abnormal food and propose plans to improve and change processes and plans to improve the operational efficiency of the association.

Whenever there is an improvement proposed plan, members contact the group leader. If the group leader believes that the plan is feasible, they should contact and convene an extraordinary meeting to unify the opinions of the entire association to ensure that workers' meals are safe and nutritious" - Ms. Van said.

Organize "Special Meal" once every quarter

Previously, every month, the NFC Association organized a delicious meal day for all workers. From 2025, the NFC Association is testing to upgrade it to a "Special Meal" and organizes it once a quarter.

Ms. Cao Thi Kim Tuyen said that before each "Special Meal", the company announces on the company's fanpage for all workers to know. The dishes are all beautifully and eye-catchingly presented, delicious and quality, so workers really like them.

After organizing the "Special Meal", the trade union conducted a survey and found that most workers are interested and highly satisfied with this meal. Based on the survey results, the trade union proposed to the company's board of directors to increase the frequency of organizing the "Special Meal" once a month. This will contribute to improving work motivation as well as improving employee welfare.

Ms. Van also said that in 2026, the Grassroots Trade Union of Nissei Electric Vietnam Company will organize a "Trade Union Meal" on the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam Trade Union (July 28, 1929 - July 28, 2026) and it will not overlap with the current "Special Meal". According to Ms. Van, the "Special Meal" is balanced by the restaurant, and the "Trade Union Meal" will be organized with a separate theme and special menu, thereby creating a cohesive atmosphere between employees and the trade union and the company. The Grassroots Trade Union also allocates funds to give many gifts to employees on this occasion.
