Under the hot sun of July days, hundreds of workers at shipbuilding facilities along the Ninh Co River (Xuan Truong commune, Ninh Binh province) are still diligently working, racing against schedule to promptly deliver orders.
According to records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, at many shipyards in Xuan Truong commune, the sound of cutting machines and welding machines continuously echoes. On the steel ship bodies that are gradually taking shape, workers are divided into groups to perform processing, assembly, and structural welding stages.

Due to the nature of the work mainly taking place outdoors or in closed ship compartments, often exposed to high temperatures from metal welding and cutting activities, the working environment is always hot, sometimes the temperature reaches 50 degrees Celsius. Many workers have to wear thick protective clothing, gloves, masks and protective glasses throughout the working shift.
Attached to the shipbuilding profession in Xuan Truong commune for 20 years, Mr. Pham Van Tuan said: "Summer is the most difficult time for workers in the profession. To ensure health, we arrange flexible working hours, increase mid-shift break time, and equip fully with protective gear, drinking water and cooling equipment in the production area.
Also working at a shipbuilding facility in Xuan Truong commune, Mr. Pham Anh Tuan (resident of Xuan Hong commune, Ninh Binh province) shared that on peak hot days, the temperature inside the steel ship compartment is much higher than outside.

There are times when stepping into the welding train compartment, sweat flows and wets clothes after only a few minutes. The work is hard, but the brothers still encourage each other to try to meet the ship handover schedule. The workshop also creates conditions for workers to take more breaks, supplement drinking water, electrolyte water and cooling fans to ensure health on hot days," Mr. Tuan said.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Dung - Director of Viet Duc Shipbuilding Trading Investment Co., Ltd., the hot season is always a period when businesses pay special attention to workers' health. Therefore, the unit has proactively adjusted working hours, limited construction during hot sunny times, arranged more mid-shift break time, and equipped workers with cooling drinks and full labor protection.
In addition, regularly remind workers to rest reasonably, monitor their health and have plans to adjust work when the weather is too harsh, both ensuring labor safety and maintaining production efficiency.
