Timely support and care for workers
Ms. Nguyen Thi Di - a worker at APACHE Vietnam Shoes Company Limited (Long Giang Industrial Park, Tien Giang Province) - said that she and her husband work at APACHE Vietnam Shoes Company Limited. At the end of April 2023, unfortunately, the house burned down completely, leaving her family homeless. "With a small salary, my husband and I could no longer afford to rebuild the house. The union supported me with gifts and money so I could rebuild the house," Ms. Di said.
Ms. Lam Binh Tuyen - a worker at Choi & Shin'S Vina Company Limited - shared that in 2023, the company had no orders, and workers were facing many difficulties. At this time, the policy of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor provided timely support, making union members and workers very excited. "Receiving the 1 million VND support has helped me get through this difficult time," said Ms. Tuyen. Ms. Tuyen added that the company had no orders, so it let workers take unpaid leave. Receiving support from the union was like a "lifeline" to help her overcome difficulties.
Resources to care for workers
Mr. Le Vo Huu Hanh - Chairman of the Trade Union of Freeview Vietnam Co., Ltd. - said that the union budget is always made public and transparent by the grassroots trade union. Accordingly, the union's activities using this finance are all expressed in writing, the grassroots trade union makes the final settlement and makes it public at the company. Employees and managers can know the expenditure of the grassroots trade union, thereby creating trust among union members and employees.
“Over the past years, the company has done a good job of paying 2% of the union fund along with union dues. The Freeview Vietnam Company Limited’s grassroots union has used it reasonably, economically and fulfilled its obligation to pay monthly financial contributions to the higher-level union in accordance with the provisions of the Union Charter. When joining the union, employees are visited and cared for during holidays, Tet, when they are sick or have work-related accidents; they are able to participate in cultural and sports activities, improve their spiritual life, and have their legitimate and legal rights and interests protected when they are violated,” said Mr. Hanh.
According to Mr. Hanh, maintaining the payment of union fees is very meaningful for businesses in taking care of union members and employees. From union fees, grassroots unions have a source of funds to visit and subsidize union members and employees when they are sick, pregnant, in trouble, or in difficulty, organize other activities to care for employees as well as organize emulation movements launched by the union.
Mr. Nguyen Trung Tan - Chairman of the Trade Union of the Health Sector of Tien Giang Province - said that the trade union fund will be used for 12 groups according to the provisions of the Trade Union Law. In particular, it will mainly focus on visiting and providing subsidies for union members and employees when they are sick, pregnant, in trouble, or in difficulty; organizing other care activities for employees; encouraging and rewarding employees and employees' children with achievements in studying and working; organizing cultural, sports, and tourism activities for employees...
"75% of the Union budget is allocated to the grassroots union to proactively and promptly take practical care of the lives and spirits of union members and workers at the unit," said Mr. Tan.
