A support when workers encounter risks
The new house still smelling of paint is the beginning of the peaceful days of Ms. Do Minh Thu, a grassroots trade union member of Lac Ty II Co., Ltd. (Can Tho City), after a major family event. In early March 2025, her small house suddenly caught fire, completely burned down. Her father suffered a minor stroke, her mother traded in a small water stall at home, with unstable income.
Faced with that situation, the grassroots trade union of Lac Ty II Co., Ltd. promptly called on officials, employees, and union members to join hands to support Ms. Thu's family to rebuild a new house. The house is 5m wide, 27m long, tiled floor, solid walls, with a total construction cost of 180 million VND. Of which, more than 107 million VND was mobilized and contributed by the grassroots trade union, and the rest was from the family and relatives.
Without the Trade Union, I don't know how my family will manage. Having this roof is a great motivation for me to feel secure in my work and try harder," Ms. Thu emotionally shared.
Also thanks to the timely companionship of the Trade Union, Ms. Duong Thi Kieu Hoa, a worker at Soc Trang TunTex Co., Ltd., overcame the difficult period after a traffic accident that occurred in early 2025. On her way home from work, Ms. Hoa unfortunately had an accident, leading to a broken left femur and injuries to many areas of her body.
I kept thinking about having to quit for a long time, worried about where to get money for treatment. But the company has supported all hospital fees, the Trade Union also supports a part of the cost. When I returned to work, I was assigned a job suitable for my health. I was very touched and had more motivation to continue working better," Ms. Hoa shared.
Ms. Le Thi Suong Mai - Chairwoman of the Can Tho City Labor Federation (LDLD) - said that in the past term, trade union levels have achieved many outstanding results. During the Lunar New Year, trade union levels supported more than 289,000 union members and workers with a budget of over 125 billion VND. The Fund for Capital Assistance for poor workers lent 3,000 loans with more than 30 billion VND; coordinated with the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to support 33 loan projects of 2.3 billion VND, contributing to creating jobs and increasing income for workers. In the period 2024-2025, from the Tam Long Vang Charity Social Fund, Can Tho branch and mobilized sources, trade union levels have supported the construction of 373 Trade Union Homes for union members in difficult circumstances.
Sending expectations to the 14th National Party Congress
From specific and everyday stories, many union members and workers expressed their respect and gratitude to the Trade Union organization for always caring and accompanying them in both favorable and difficult times. At the same time, they sent many expectations to the 14th National Party Congress.
According to Mr. Ly Truong Giang - union member of the grassroots trade union of Khanh Sung Co., Ltd. (Can Tho City), currently workers' lives mainly depend on monthly salaries and bonuses during holidays and Tet. In the context of economic difficulties, many businesses lack orders, workers' incomes are reduced, and many people are at risk of black credit borrowing. “If workers in difficult circumstances are supported to borrow capital through entrustment to the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies at low interest rates, it is very good. It both helps them stabilize their lives and limits the situation of black credit borrowing,” Mr. Giang suggested.
Union member Tran Hai Trieu - Trade Union of Sao Ta Food Joint Stock Company (Can Tho City) said that in the context of rapidly developing science and technology, workers need to be trained and improve their skills to avoid the risk of being eliminated from the production line. Mr. Trieu hopes that the Trade Union organization will coordinate with sectors and levels to organize many vocational guidance classes and skills training suitable to local strengths.
Sending her thoughts to the 14th National Party Congress, Ms. Trang My Nhut, a grassroots trade union member of HS Vietnam Chemical Co., Ltd. - Soc Trang Branch, expressed her desire to have more practical policies to support and encourage workers; launch widespread emulation movements; strengthen dissemination of laws and labor safety knowledge, helping workers raise their awareness of self-protection, and feel secure in long-term attachment to businesses.
