Labor market fluctuates after Tet
According to the latest report of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, the labor situation before the Lunar New Year 2025 recorded an increase in seasonal recruitment demand as businesses boosted production to serve Tet needs.
In Ho Chi Minh City, the estimated labor recruitment demand before the Lunar New Year 2025 is 28,525 positions, mainly concentrated in the trade and service sector (accounting for nearly 70%).
Some industrial parks in Hanoi, Bac Giang, Dong Nai, Binh Duong... have thousands of workers registered to work through Tet.
The Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs forecasts that after Tet, the labor market will experience fluctuations because some workers may not return to work (change jobs or change residence). This leads to temporary local labor shortages and increased demand for new recruitment in the first quarter of 2025, especially in the manufacturing and service sectors.
Besides, a large workforce in the public service sector after the plan to reorganize and streamline the State apparatus will participate in the labor market, creating pressure on the issue of job connection...
Building solutions to retain employees
Speaking to Lao Dong reporter on February 4, Mr. Le Quang Trung - former Deputy Director in charge of the Department of Employment (Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs) - said that the issue of employment, income and social welfare of workers is increasingly being paid attention by businesses, creating attachment and establishing long-term sustainable relationships. This is also what workers always want.
Along with meaningful activities during Tet such as ensuring Tet bonuses and other benefits and practical support for employees to welcome the Spring of At Ty; in recent years, businesses have had many solutions to create jobs and stable income, retain employees, the rate of employees returning to work after Tet is increasingly high (over 95%), contributing to stabilizing the labor market. The number of people who do not return to work is due to finding a new, better, more suitable job, or participating in training courses or starting their own business to create jobs.
“The labor market after the Lunar New Year 2025 will fluctuate due to the high demand for new recruitment from businesses to meet production and business needs, fulfill signed orders, and implement plans for the new year…”, Mr. Le Quang Trung commented.
Commenting on the fluctuations of the labor market after Tet, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Huong - former Director of the Institute of Labor Science and Social Affairs (Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs) affirmed the value and sustainability of solutions to retain workers.
According to Ms. Lan Huong, the temporary local labor shortage and the high demand for new recruitment in the first quarter of 2025 are predictable. In particular, the high demand occurs in enterprises in the manufacturing and service sectors.
Ms. Lan Huong highly appreciated the efforts of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in the program "Union Train - Spring 2025", the Union flight...which supported thousands of workers and laborers with round-trip train tickets from the Southern provinces to the Northern region. This effort also contributed significantly to the balance of labor supply and demand after Tet.
“Relevant agencies need to focus more on proactively grasping the labor-employment situation in the area; strengthening labor market information and connecting labor supply and demand through activities such as increasing the frequency of organizing job fairs and organizing online job fairs between localities,” Ms. Lan Huong stated.
