Ms. Lam Thi Sieu said that she has been working as a hand-sewn stripper for hand-classifying recycled plastic waste at Soc Trang solid waste treatment plant - Complex Enterprise (Soc Trang Urban Construction Joint Stock Company) for 9 years.
Working in an environment with many potential risks of occupational safety, hygiene and fire, Ms. Sieu always proactively learn and adjust operations to improve work efficiency. She actively participates in regular professional activities to promptly identify limitations and propose solutions.
The factory receives more than 160 tons of waste per day. Garbage is highly moisturized, contains many organic substances and has often begun to decompose, so ensuring occupational safety is always a top priority, Ms. Sieu shared.

According to Ms. Sieu, based on the reality of the lightning protection system at the classification house, nursery house and the refined house that has deteriorated after more than 5 years of operation, she and the collective of workers proposed the initiative "Proactively repairing the factory's lightning protection systems".
"3 lightning protection systems were severely damaged. Realizing that the repair cost was quite large, we suggested that the Enterprise's Board of Directors consult the Company's Board of Directors to repair it themselves to save costs," she informed.
Ms. Sieu said that the proactive repair has helped completely restore the lightning protection system, ensuring safety for workers, equipment, infrastructure and saving nearly 81.5 million VND for the unit. This solution can also be applied in the long term for system maintenance.
Similarly, from the reality that the excavator has deteriorated after nearly 8 years of operating in a humid environment and with a lot of waste, Ms. Sieu and the collective continue to propose the initiative "Solution for welding adjacent and collapsible alloy wheels and reversal wheels".
Ms. Sieu said that many large and small wheel arches and wheel rims are rotten and deformed, causing the wheel to not hold tightly, making it easy to loose when inflating or changing tires, potentially causing the wheel arches and wheels to cause accidents. The technical team proposed to weld 4 points on the wheel rims to create a solid connection, helping to avoid spinning parts during the repair process. The solution has contributed to ensuring the safety of workers when maintaining equipment and improving the efficiency of overturned excavators.
A representative of the Executive Committee of the Trade Union of Soc Trang Urban Construction Joint Stock Company said that Ms. Lam Thi Sieu is a party member and union member who always upholds the sense of responsibility and is a leader in the movement of the unit. For many consecutive years, union member Sieu has excellently completed his tasks, achieving the title of Advanced Worker and Emulation Fighter at the grassroots level.
According to Soc Trang Urban Construction Joint Stock Company, in the past 2 years, Soc Trang solid waste treatment joint venture has worked with the staff, workers and laborers to implement nearly 37 initiatives and innovative solutions. These initiatives help improve the efficiency of the operation of waste classification and treatment lines, thereby helping the unit complete and exceed the target assigned by the company by about 28% per year.
The Classification Workshop alone has processed 100% of the daily waste received, raising the rate of recovered recyclable waste to about 2.5%, contributing to significantly reducing the amount of waste that must be buried.
