Attending the handover were Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan, leaders of the Binh Dinh Provincial Confederation of Labor and the Hai Phong City Confederation of Labor.
The two union members receiving support this time are Nguyen Thi Thuy Nga and Lam Thi Thuy. Each new Union Shelter is equivalent to 50 million VND. This is part of a 300 million VND support package from the beginning of 2024 contributed by workers in the port city.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Nga (born in 1993, in Phu Lam village, Tay Phu commune) is an accountant, a union member of the Tay Son District Water Supply and Drainage Management Board. Ms. Nga belongs to a near-poor household, with an income of 4.3 million VND/month. She and her husband have to take care of a 6-year-old child with leukemia, who has to go for monthly check-ups and treatment at Children's Hospital 2, Ho Chi Minh City; and take care of her stroke-stricken father who has difficulty walking. For many years, her small family has had to live at her parents' house.
In block 5, Phu Phong town, the family of Ms. Lam Thi Thuy (1971), a specialist of the District Party Committee's Propaganda Department, Vice President of the Tay Son District Party Committee's Trade Union, is busy in a new house of about 75 square meters, with construction costs of more than 400 million VND. Ms. Thuy was moved to thank the attention of Binh Dinh Trade Union at all levels and the sharing gesture from Hai Phong workers.
The old house that Ms. Thuy built in 1972 is seriously degraded and prone to collapse during the rainy and stormy season. “There is no way to repair or reinforce it because it is too dilapidated. Building a new one is not feasible. Luckily, the district and provincial Labor Federations chose to support me, I borrowed more, combined with my savings; and so my dream of settling down became a reality,” Ms. Thuy said tearfully. This woman is the strong support of her two children who are still studying and her husband who has suffered a serious stroke and is paralyzed on one side.
At the handover ceremony, Vice President of Hai Phong City Labor Federation Bui Thi Ngoc expressed her wish to continue accompanying Binh Dinh Province Labor Federation in supporting and taking care of union members and workers in difficulty in the area in the coming years.
Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor Huynh Thanh Xuan encouraged Ms. Thuy and Ms. Nga to strive to overcome difficulties, complete their work well at the agency and take care of their family.
Mr. Xuan acknowledged and commended the achievements of Binh Dinh trade unions at all levels in representing and taking care of the legitimate rights and interests of workers, and at the same time proposed to continue promoting and enhancing effective cooperation and mutual assistance in a close and practical manner between the Binh Dinh Provincial Federation of Labor and the Hai Phong City Federation of Labor.
It is known that the above 300 million VND support was formed thanks to the connecting role of Vice Chairman Huynh Thanh Xuan.
On this occasion, Mr. Xuan and the delegation visited Quang Trung Museum, offered incense at the Temple of the Three Tay Son Heroes and the civil and military mandarins.
