Persistent pain
More than two weeks after the horrific explosion at SGI Vina Magnetic Magnet Factory (Bac Chu Lai Industrial Park, Nui Thanh District), injuring 12 workers, the victims' families have yet to return to their pain.
Among them, Mr. P.D.T (28 years old) is in a particularly difficult situation as he is still in critical condition, his wife has just given birth to a 4-month-old child. Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, Head of the Cocking and Steering Department, shockedly recounted: "After the explosion, I was thrown away, the concrete wall collapsed, and there was a chaotic scene around, with many injured people lying around".
Previously, in early May 2025, Mr. Dinh Ngoc Dien died, Mr. Nguyen Van Quy was seriously injured while constructing a house in Ninh Phuoc commune, Que Son district. After losing the main breadwinner, Mr. Dien's family was already in difficulty, and now it has increased. His two children are of school age and have to rely on their nearly 70-year-old grandmother.
The working group of the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Nam province visited the families of people who died in work accidents. Mr. Nguyen Qui Quy - Deputy Director of the Department of Home Affairs - shared: "Victors of work-related accidents are all family pillars, when they passed away, their relatives all talked in tears, the situation was very painful".
Strengthening labor environment monitoring
After the accident at SGI Vina factory, the leader of Quang Nam province directed the relevant agencies to investigate the cause and overcome the consequences. Trade Union of economic zones and industrial parks of Quang Nam province and the provincial Labor Union supported a total of VND 60 million, including VND 36 million from the Golden Heart Social Fund.
Mr. Phan Xuan Quang - Chairman of the Quang Nam Provincial Federation of Labor - emphasized: "The Trade Union will continue to supervise compliance with labor safety regulations at enterprises, always putting the safety and health of workers first".
According to the Department of Home Affairs of Quang Nam province, in 2024, there were 179 work accidents, killing 181 victims, including 7 deaths and 17 serious injuries. Notably, up to 58.1% of cases were due to employee errors, mainly violating regulations and not using personal protective equipment. Industries such as manufacturing, mining, and construction are the areas with the highest risk.
In order to prevent labor accidents, Quang Nam province has implemented many drastic measures. Inspection and examination work has also been promoted. The Department of Construction Inspectorate inspected 51 projects and fined 10 units with a total amount of 230 million VND. The Provincial Police organized fire prevention and fighting inspections of more than 2,500 times with hundreds of thousands of participants, strictly handling violating facilities.
The provincial Center for Disease Control conducts labor environment monitoring for 169 enterprises, organizes periodic health check-ups and occupational diseases for thousands of workers, and provides first aid training for more than 7,500 people. Training courses on occupational safety and hygiene are held regularly, helping to raise awareness for workers and businesses.
Mr. Nguyen Qui Quy affirmed that these drastic measures aim to build a safer working environment, contributing to reducing unfortunate accidents. However, the key factor is still the self-awareness of each individual and the serious compliance with labor safety regulations of each enterprise.
