Not waiting until graduation to supplement soft skills, many students right from the 2nd year have proactively cultivated practical skills according to their majors.

Bui Thi My Linh, born in 2006, 2nd year student of Journalism major - College of Television.

Recognizing the importance of practice for her major, in the summer, My Linh decided to register to participate in a short-term MC training course.

As a student majoring in journalism, I realize that in addition to professional knowledge, practical skills are extremely important. Loving the job of hosting programs and pursuing a journalism career, I chose to participate in an MC course to train confidence, communication skills and stage presence," My Linh said.

According to My Linh, in the summer days, when she was fully focused on her time in class, MC brought a clear change to her. From a shy, nervous girl when standing in front of a crowd, My Linh gradually controlled her voice and emotions.

Through the course, I not only learned how to host standard programs but also honed many other skills such as using voice, body language, handling situations and teamwork. The clearest change is that before, every time I stood in front of a crowd, I was very nervous and self-deprecating, now I am much more confident. When hosting programs, I have learned how to convey a clear message. These skills support me a lot in my studies as well as work later," My Linh excitedly shared.

Sharing the same thought of wanting to develop soft skills soon, Pham Khanh Linh, born in 2006, a 2nd year student majoring in Finance - Banking (Hanoi University of Finance - Banking) said that this summer vacation she spends all her time focusing on improving her English skills and communication skills.

Taking advantage of summer vacation without a tight school schedule, I focus on investing in learning English and fostering communication skills. Referring to relatives and seniors, I know that if I speak English well and communicate flexibly, I will increase my job opportunities at international financial institutions. This is not only my dream but also the dream of most finance - banking students," Khanh Linh said.

Participating in the course not long ago, Khanh Linh noticed a clear improvement in herself. She is much better at presentation ability, confident when communicating in English.

According to Khanh Linh, no student does not want to rest and relax in the summer. However, thanks to researching information online and consulting with previous generations, she is deeply aware that training and improving skills for herself will bring long-term value; helping her better prepare for the next semesters as well as future work.

Putting aside personal needs and early learning soft skills, fostering professional/field knowledge proactively is the current practical thinking of many young people. I always tell myself to try harder, not to leave myself behind in the increasingly demanding labor market, when a university degree is only a necessary condition for employers," Khanh Linh added.
