To Lich River gradually revives thanks to the hands of workers

Tùng Giang |

For more than half a month, workers of Hanoi Drainage Company Limited have made continuous efforts to carry out an important task in the To Lich River cleanup campaign, contributing to improving the environment and improving the quality of life for the capital.

Striving to complete ahead of schedule

The To Lich River Cleaning and Revivation Campaign is an important project of Hanoi City, aiming to improve environmental quality and improve the quality of life of the people of the capital.

To Lich River - one of the major rivers of Hanoi - has been seriously polluted for many years due to untreated domestic and industrial wastewater, making it impossible for the river to maintain its natural ecosystem.

Faced with this situation, in early February 2025, the Hanoi People's Committee directed the overall dredging of the To Lich River to improve the environment. Accordingly, the Department of Construction will coordinate with Hanoi Drainage One Member Co., Ltd. to complete the dredging work in August 2025. Immediately after the direction, Hanoi Drainage One Member Co., Ltd. deployed human resources and equipment to dredge sludge in the upstream of To Lich River, from Hoang Quoc Viet Street to Buoi (Cau Giay District).

Mr. Trinh Ngoc Son - Construction Commander, Deputy General Director of Hanoi Drainage Company Limited - said that as of the evening of March 4, the company had dredged about 5,000 - 6,000m3 of sludge. It is expected that by the end of April 30, the amount of sludge dredged will be up to 50,000m3.

To ensure progress, the company has divided the work shift into whole days and nights, in which the night shift will be the main shift, from 9:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. the next morning, with the participation of 5 units and each unit mobilized 3-5 continuous work lines.

Pride in contributing to the revival of the river

According to the workers, although this work is done annually and must be completed before the rainy season, this year the amount of sludge is more than in previous years, creating greater pressure. The reason is explained that in 2024, the company must focus on and prioritize the construction of sewers on both sides of the river for the Yen Xa Wastewater Treatment Plant project.

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Long (born in 1996), a night shift worker at the company, said that working at night is very hard, but the efficiency is higher because he is not affected by traffic. Mr. Long shared that this work is the pride of him and other workers, because they are contributing to the revival of To Lich River, bringing a clean and beautiful river to the capital.

"In the future, if To Lich River returns to the green, we will be very proud to have contributed a part to make the efforts so that people and tourists can enjoy a clean, unpolluted river" - Mr. Long hopes.

On the night of March 4, to recognize the efforts of workers working overnight, the working delegation of the Hanoi City Labor Federation and the Hanoi City Department of Construction visited and presented gifts of encouragement. The delegation also shared the difficulties and hardships that workers had to face during the dredging task. The Hanoi City Labor Federation has presented 3 enterprises of the company with gifts worth 10 million VND each and a gift box worth 1.5 million VND. 20 workers in difficult circumstances also received gifts including 1 million VND and a gift bag worth 300,000 VND.

These timely encouragement not only help workers overcome difficulties but also give them more motivation to continue to contribute their efforts, complete their tasks, and contribute to the revival of the To Lich River.
