Drivers struggle because of owed salaries and deposits

Hoài Phương |

For more than 3 months, 22 drivers working at Green Car Transport Co., Ltd. (address No. 96 Che Lan Vien, Quy Nhon Nam ward, Gia Lai province) have fallen into difficulty when they are owed salaries and deposits after the business suddenly stopped operating.

Drivers in distress due to owed salaries and deposits

Reflecting to Lao Dong Newspaper, many drivers said that Green Car Transport Co., Ltd. has stopped operating from the beginning of March 2026 to date. However, after many months, the enterprise has not fully paid the February 2026 salary and deposit - the amount that drivers have to pay when working at the company - to employees.

Indignant, drivers have repeatedly contacted and directly come to the company to request payment but all without results. According to reports, business owners have repeatedly promised and committed to pay but have not fulfilled their promises, making the lives of many workers even more difficult.

Notably, among the drivers who are owed money, many are the main laborers, bearing the expenses of the whole family. Losing their jobs suddenly, and not being paid salary and deposit money, they have to struggle to manage living expenses, rent, raising young children and taking care of elderly parents... while not finding a new job.

Driver Le Thi Thu Thao (born 1972, residing in Quy Nhon Nam ward) said that she was owed 3.5 million VND in deposit and about 3.7 million VND - half of the remaining salary of February 2026.

I am the main breadwinner feeding 4 mouths in the family. Losing my job suddenly, and being owed salary and deposit money, in the past few months, the rent and living expenses of the whole family have to be borrowed to cover expenses. No one wants the company to stop operating, but our sweat and effort money must be fully paid" - Ms. Thao complained.

Similarly, driver Nguyen Phuong Dung (born 1995, residing in Quy Nhon Nam ward) said that she was owed 3 million VND in salary and 2 million VND in deposit.

Our collective of drivers does not want to cause difficulties for the company, just hope to receive back all of our money. But because the company promised too many times, paid in small installments, we had to file a petition for help, asking Lao Dong Newspaper and functional agencies to intervene and demand the money back" - Ms. Dung said.

Many workers also questioned what the company used the deposit for and why it has not yet returned it to the driver, even though it has stopped operating and vehicles have been recovered.

Business owner asks for more time to repay debt

Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Nhu Hoang Xuan Quang - Director of Green Car Transport Co., Ltd. - admitted that the enterprise owes wages and deposits to drivers as reflected. However, during the suspension period, the company paid half of the February 2026 salary to the workers.

Because the company is facing difficulties, it cannot pay the entire amount at the same time. We are committed to fully paying the remaining salary and returning the deposit to the drivers, but more time is needed to manage finances" - Mr. Quang promised.

According to Mr. Quang, although operations have been suspended, the company still receives workers' petitions, prioritizing prior resolution for particularly difficult cases. "I hope the drivers will share the company's difficulties, and give me more time to pay the remaining amounts" - Mr. Quang said.

The Gia Lai Provincial Labor Federation invited 22 workers and business representatives to work and dialogue to agree on a plan to pay salaries and deposits with a total amount of more than 136 million VND.

Through working, Mr. Quang said that the company has been operating since May 2025 in the transportation sector. However, in the business process, the company encountered many difficulties in dossier procedures, electric vehicle rental costs, battery rental costs... leading to the suspension of operations from March 2026. Since then, the company has had no revenue, so it has owed salaries and deposits from employees.

Mr. Quang committed to paying all outstanding salaries; returning all deposits to employees no later than June 20, 2026. Drivers have also agreed with the payment schedule that the business owner has set out.
