Businesses with many incentives still find it difficult to recruit workers
From the reality of businesses, Mr. Phan Thanh Hai - Head of the Office of the General Director - Risk Management Department, Member of the Standing Committee of the Trade Union of High-Tech Parks and Industrial Parks of Hanoi City, Chairman of the Trade Union of Meiko Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Thach That Industrial Park) - informed that the company has about 6,500 workers, but due to production requirements, it still needs to recruit more.
The content of general labor recruitment clearly states benefits such as fixed salary from 6.4 million VND/month; attractive income from 9 - 20 million VND/month, adjusted 2 times a year; benefits enjoyed such as domestic and foreign tourism, free lunch, free dormitory, social insurance contributions... In addition, the company also actively participates in job fairs, career counseling and recruitment trips in mountainous provinces.
Although they have actively recruited; publicly and clearly announced their rights and posted recruitments continuously every day of the week, they still cannot recruit enough workers for the needs. Mr. Phan Thanh Hai analyzed here for 2 reasons. First, for positions of technical workers and machine operators, the professional qualifications of applicants do not meet the requirements of businesses. Second, for general labor positions, it is even more difficult to recruit because the number of general labor in the market is increasingly scarce.
One of the reasons for the scarcity is that industrial parks are expanding to other geographical locations more and more, so they do not attract workers to Hanoi. Besides, the cost of living in Hanoi is expensive, and the income of workers is not enough to cover family expenses and the development of children.
Therefore, workers choose to work in industrial parks in their hometowns or near their hometowns to reduce costs, increase savings, and be convenient for taking care of parents and children.
From the above reality shows that, although businesses have many incentives, the Trade Union organization accompanies businesses to care for workers such as visiting and supporting difficult circumstances; providing transportation funds for Tet; organizing Trade Union Meals... it is also not really attractive to workers. Currently, Meiko Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. is looking for 450 - 700 unskilled workers each month, but almost no month meets the set requirements.
Garment sector faces labor shortage
Not only electronics businesses, businesses in the garment sector are also facing a prolonged shortage of human resources despite continuously increasing benefits.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan - owner of Tuan Duyen Garment Enterprise (Ninh Binh) - shared that the enterprise has a scale of about 200 workers but currently only has more than 50 people working. Each month, the company only recruits about 5-10 new workers. "My friends have a business with a scale of nearly 1,000 workers but each month they only recruit about 30 people" - Mr. Tuan said.
According to Mr. Tuan, from 2025, the area where the business operates will have two new garment companies with strong financial potential, more attractive salaries, bonuses and benefits. This is causing many workers to switch to new businesses.
Not only wage competition, but also differences in product unit prices, working hours and welfare policies make workers willing to move to workplaces with better incomes.
To retain and attract human resources, businesses have increased attendance bonuses to 1 million VND/month for people who complete 26-27 jobs, equivalent to new businesses in the area, and at the same time rewarded 500,000 VND for workers when they receive jobs. However, recruitment efficiency has not been significantly improved.
In order to maintain production activities, businesses are forced to expand the target group of recruitment, accept training for inexperienced people, and prioritize receiving older workers or pregnant female workers if they are still skilled and capable of working.
