Voice of union members, workers

Da Nang workers expect the dream of settling down to become a reality.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hai, Member of the Standing Committee of the Trade Union of Bac My An Tourist Area Joint Stock Company:

Workers in the tourism industry always try their best to beautify Da Nang's image in the eyes of tourists, but the dream of a stable home in this city is still too far away. Currently, most of us still have to live in cramped, hot rented rooms. Many brothers and sisters in my company have prepared dossiers carefully, submitted applications to buy social housing in many installments, but they have not been accepted because the number of registered people is large and the chance rate is too low.

We hope the City Labor Federation will propose to the Da Nang City People's Committee to have breakthrough solutions to quickly increase the number of social housing in the coming period, helping us reduce the scene of "lining up" to wait. And instead of mass draws as at present, the city can consider allocating specific targets to each target group (such as tourism, health, education...) and organize separate draws by group to ensure fairness and closeness to the actual needs of each industry.

Ms. Phan Thi Kim Oanh, Mabuchi Motor Da Nang Company Limited:

We are very happy to see Da Nang city continuously implementing social housing projects. However, a worrying reality is that the selling price and rental price are still too high compared to the income of the majority of workers.

With an average income of only 6 to 8 million VND per month, after covering minimum living expenses and raising young children, the accumulated amount is very small. Many brothers and sisters, although very eager to have a stable home, have to put aside their dreams because of too much financial pressure.

We hope the City Labor Federation will propose to the Da Nang City People's Committee to soon have solutions to reform administrative procedures, helping to simplify the steps of reviewing dossiers or considering the mechanism of using local budgets to implement preferential interest rate compensation packages.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Ai Lien, Trade Union member of BlueBee Kindergarten, Da Nang City:

As a non-public kindergarten teacher, I am very happy that the city is increasingly interested in developing social housing for low-income people. However, with the current salary of private kindergarten teachers, owning an apartment is still very difficult. Many of my colleagues have married, have young children, but have to rent rooms for many years. Rent, living expenses and childcare account for the majority of income, so it is almost impossible to accumulate to buy a house.

What we want most is for the City Trade Union organization to propose and advise Da Nang city leaders to issue policies that are more suitable to the specific characteristics of workers in the non-public education sector. Because this is a group of workers with stable but not high incomes, while they really need a place to live for a long time to feel secure in their profession.
