Talking numbers
The Party's guidelines, the Government's projects and the VGCL are creating strong changes, originating from specific actions.
This June of 2026, when the Action Month for Children knocks on the door and in the joyful atmosphere of welcoming the 14th Vietnam Trade Union Congress, the VGCL will deploy the donation of 7,000 sets of English reading and learning markers to children of union members and workers in industrial parks (IPs), export processing zones (EPZs), remote and isolated areas. This is not simply a technology gift, but a key to opening the door of language, giving equal opportunities to access knowledge for children aged 5 to 10 - the golden age to develop thinking.
In addition, the proactiveness and creativity in protecting children of the Trade Union organization is also demonstrated through in-depth and strategic cooperation programs in each locality. Typically, the Project "Together for Change: Creating a non-violent environment for children of industrial park workers in Thanh Hoa province".
Implemented in the period from November 2025 to June 2026, the project establishes a solid "shield" to protect when approaching and bringing direct benefits to at least 3,510 people. Among them, 110 key trade union officials and workers have been directly trained to become spreading agents; 2,600 workers are equipped with knowledge through online courses on preventing violence against women and children. In particular, the highlight of the project is attracting 800 children of workers aged 10-18 to participate in "Day of Connecting Parents - Children".
Looking more broadly at the long-term journey, the decision to promulgate the Project "Supporting workers in industrial parks and export processing zones in caring for and raising children in the period 2025 - 2028" approved by Ms. Thai Thu Xuong - Standing Vice President of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor - has opened a new turning point.
The Trade Union organization does not stop at timely activities but has embarked on building a sustainable social security ecosystem. A vivid proof is the successful pilot project of 244 social housing units for rent in Ha Nam.
Continuing that fire, in the period 2024 - 2025, the Trade Union set a determined goal: Starting construction of 4 more social housing projects in Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Bac Ninh and Bac Giang provinces with a scale of about 2,000 apartments. These spacious homes come with high-quality preschool education facilities, helping workers' children have a safe and healthy living environment so that parents can feel secure in working and producing.
Spreading humane models
At workers' boarding houses, the Trade Union closely coordinates with landlords and local authorities to create cozy cultural living spaces. Emotional programs such as "Tet for children", "Loving books", "Wings of dreams" scholarships, or moments of contemplation of "Reading stories with children", lullaby contest "Lullaby by the hammock"... have brought invaluable spiritual food, compensating for emotional deprivations for children in the factory area.
Not stopping there, the movement to build "Learning Corners for Children", "Trade Union Bookshelves" and the support of equipment for at least 1 independent private childcare group in industrial park areas has proven the closeness and protection of the employee representative organization.
Speaking of symbolic models, we cannot fail to mention "Summer Camp for Workers' Children", typically "Thanh Da Summer Camp" of the Ho Chi Minh City Labor Federation with a history of more than 40 years of continuous maintenance. This is a training cradle, a true summer playground to help children learn to be independent, disciplined, equip themselves with teamwork skills, and at the same time deeply educate the tradition of "When drinking water, remember the source".
From these successful lessons, the VGCL is replicating the guidance model nationwide, opening up interesting and useful summer vacations for tens of thousands of students. In addition, free health check-ups, psychological counseling, and skills to prevent abuse and injuries are also being implemented synchronously.
In particular, the care of the Trade Union touches even the most sacred rights of motherhood through the model "Mother's milk storage room at the workplace". Implemented since 2012 with the companionship of the nurturing and development organization (Alive and Thrive), this humane model has been successfully legalized into the 2019 Labor Code and Decree 145/2020/ND-CP, stipulating mandatory installation for businesses with 1,000 or more female employees. More than 1,500 milk storage rooms have been established at agencies and businesses, bringing practical benefits and protecting the health of tens of thousands of mothers and newborns.
That persistent companionship is also extended through the model of activities "Pregnant women's groups and raising young children", "Parental skills for comprehensive child development" in coordination with UNICEF, which has trained 100 core officials since 2023, helping to equip them with scientific child-rearing knowledge. And every year, the commendation ceremonies "Elephant union members' children study well and overcome difficulties" are solemnly organized.
From humane models, it can be seen that the care journey of the Trade Union organization is not only limited to material support, but even higher, it is to ignite the flame of faith, wing dreams to fly high and far, towards the comprehensive development of future generations.
