According to information from an Internet service provider in Vietnam, in addition to the two SJC2 and AAE-1 lines having problems before, the two AAG and IA lines are also having problems. The simultaneous occurrence of 4 cable lines having problems has significantly affected Internet connection traffic from Vietnam to international destinations.
According to forecasts, the IA line will begin repairing in early September. The remaining three lines currently have no expected completion time.
During the time cable lines encountered problems, network operators in Vietnam have implemented many plans to maintain connection, such as transferring and sharing traffic between international cable lines, opening more access channels and taking advantage of fiber optic cable lines on land.
Sea cable incidents mainly affect access to websites and services with servers abroad. Websites and services with servers in Vietnam are not directly affected by these incidents.
Currently, Vietnam has 8 submarine fiber optic cable lines connecting internationally, including AAG, APG, SMW-3, IA, AAE-1, TVH, SJC2 and ADC. Among them, TVH is a cable line exploited since 1996 and has low traffic volume. Two lines ADC and SJC2 were put into operation from the end of 2024 and mid-2025 respectively.
The fact that many submarine cable lines encounter problems once again shows the level of dependence of international Internet connection on the submarine fiber optic cable system. Network operators are looking for ways to increase the exploitation of land-based fiber optic cable lines to supplement connection options when submarine cables encounter problems.
