According to software analyst Alessandro Paluzzi, this feature is still in the internal prototype stage and has not been publicly tested.
However, Paluzzi discovered the code related to this tool and said it will also be rolled out on Instagram in the future.
Specifically, Threads users will see a screen explaining that they can tab their @threads.algo account to determine if they want to see more or less of certain content in the data source.
The idea is similar to Elon Musk's proposal for X, when he said that users will soon be able to gan book, X's AI chatbot to the algorithm to adjust content in real time.
The new feature is part of Instagram's major efforts to improve the app, especially related to Reels and content recommendations.
Instagram Director Adam Mosseri demonstrated how users can choose topics they want to display more or less on the news feed, enter their own topics, or remove unwanted topics.
Instagram explains that this tool helps algorithms adapt to users' constantly changing moods and preferences.
This is not the first time Instagram has provided algorithmic control to users. In 2022, the company launched alternative data sources "Following" and "Laying", while in 2023, Threads allowed users to switch between the main data source "For you" and the data source "Following".
These changes come as the US Congress and public opinion are concerned about the impact of social media algorithms on young people. Similar efforts have also appeared on other platforms like Bluesky, where users can freely choose their algorithms and customize censorship.
The algorithmic the attachment feature on Threads is expected to bring a real-time experience, in line with the applications fast updating speed.
Instagram has not announced the official launch date yet, but Mosseri emphasized that the platform will reorient the experience around Reels, DM and propose in the coming time, while continuing to expand control for users.
