The US government is gradually ending cooperation with Anthropic, in the context of many federal agencies switching to using OpenAI products under new directions from President Donald Trump.
According to official announcements, the US Treasury Department, the US State Department and the Federal Housing Finance Agency are completely stopping the use of Anthropic products, including the Claude chatbot platform.
Finance Minister Scott Bessent shared on social network X that the agency has stopped using all Anthropic products.
Meanwhile, Director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency William Pulte confirmed that affiliated units, including Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, are also taking similar actions.
Notably, according to an internal memorandum, the US State Department is converting the internal chatbot system StateChat from Anthropic to OpenAI. Initially, this platform will use the GPT-4.1 model to operate.
Previously, President Trump had directed federal agencies to stop cooperating with Anthropic. The Pentagon said it would consider the company a risk to the supply chain, after controversies related to technological protection measures.
The above move is seen as a major turning point in the US government's selection of AI partners, and also helps OpenAI significantly expand its position in defense and public administration technology contracts.
