One of these chips is inspired by the Apple Watch's energy-saving processor, according to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman.
Apple is expected to mass-produc these chips with its TSMC partner by the end of next year or in 2027.
Smart glasses are a big focus. Bloomberg reported that CEO Tim Cook is determined to surpass Meta in the glasses market, where this opponent has achieved many successes in recent years. Since 2023, Meta has sold about 2 million Meta Ray-Ban.
A Bloomberg source said that Apple is currently testing a type of glasses that do not use enhanced reality technology, using cameras to scan the surrounding environment and integrating AI to support users. One of the chips under development will take charge of controlling cameras and other components while still saving battery.
If the plan is successful, this will be an important step forward to help Apple expand its AI- embedded hardware ecosystem. With Meta and other rivals accelerating with smart glasses, Apple clearly does not want to stay out of the game.
