Perplexity CEO praises the structural power of the Google ecosystem

Cát Tiên (THEO INDIANEXPRESS) |

Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas believes that YouTube and Google Maps are two almost invincible platforms because they possess the advantage of a structure that is difficult to copy.

Uncopiable structural advantages

In the context of the Indian government calling on people to prioritize the use of Made in India platforms, on the X platform, Aravind Srinivas - CEO of Perplexity AI - shared comments that attracted attention about the power of the Google ecosystem.

According to Mr. Srinivas, it is possible to break Google's dominance in search or browsing, but YouTube and Google Maps are two almost invincible tools.

According to experts, YouTube is powered by the huge amount of user-generated content and a smart recommendation system, creating a loop to retain audiences.

Meanwhile, Google Maps is based on a huge amount of spatial data that is constantly refined thanks to user contributions, mobile signals and business lists.

This makes building a similar platform that requires huge capital, accurate data, and long-term accumulation time difficult for most startups to meet.

India promotes Swadeshi solution

Ms. Srinivas's speech comes as India is making efforts to develop indigenous technology products to reduce its dependence on US platforms.

The Swadeshi campaign (to promote the production and consumption of domestic goods and services, while reducing dependence on foreign products and technology in India) has contributed to helping domestic enterprises such as Zoho or Mapmy India rise.

Mapmy India, the developer of the Mappls map app, responded directly to Srinivas' post: "We have built detailed maps of each house since 1995, something that even global giants find difficult to copy."

Notably, Mapmy India also opened a cooperation opportunity with Perplexity AI to promote innovation in the field of smart maps in India.
