At the Vietnam Tech Impact Summit 2024 (VTIS2024) taking place on December 3-4, 2024, Mr. Nguyen Duy Hung - Chairman of SSI Securities Corporation and Mr. Truong Gia Binh - Chairman of FPT Corporation shared their stories about the aspiration to change the world through technology and finance.
Speaking at the conference, SSI Securities Chairman Nguyen Duy Hung said that over the past decade, we have witnessed the remarkable development of technology globally, especially in the field of digital assets - including blockchain, cryptocurrencies, asset tokenization and decentralized applications (DeFi). Things that were previously only in the ideas and stories of each country, have now entered every corner of society and each family.
Mr. Hung cited data from a recent Forbes study, Vietnamese people ranked second in the world in owning and interested in digital assets.
“The organizations in the world present today, including the 10 largest exchanges in the world, all acknowledge that the Vietnamese market is one of the top 4 largest trading markets in the world. These are no longer technological solutions or stories of ideas, but they are entering the lives of every family in Vietnam,” the Chairman of SSI added.
However, the Chairman of SSI said that Vietnam still lacks a clear legal framework, causing this field to still face many challenges. In particular, businesses in the blockchain and digital asset fields in Vietnam still have to operate in a lack of direction, causing them to lose their competitive advantage compared to neighboring countries such as Singapore or Thailand.
Market participants also face risks due to lack of regulation, which fails to protect users from fraudulent or opaque activities.
“As people who are closely involved in the technology and digital asset market, we realize that building a legal framework for digital assets in Vietnam is not only a need for businesses but also a necessary condition to promote the development of the technology industry in particular and the economy in general,” said the Chairman of SSI.
Sharing the same view, FPT Chairman Truong Gia Binh affirmed that Vietnam has a position and is shining on the world technology map. "The revolution called digital transformation marks the era of the country's rise, so that the Vietnamese people can stand on par with advanced nations in the world" - FPT Chairman said
Mr. Truong Gia Binh added that Vietnam ranks second after India in software exports and has a technology workforce that many countries do not have. Many businesses have chosen Vietnam as their second home and many companies from other countries have chosen Vietnam as their home. AI, blockchain and other digital technologies all rely on data to develop. However, Mr. Binh also warned that data only has value when it is properly managed and has appropriate support policies.
"Vietnam has the power and strength to shine on the global technology map. But to do that, we must commit and act today," Mr. Truong Gia Binh emphasized.
