Earning billions thanks to high-tech shrimp farming
Mr. Le Van Sam (66 years old, living in Thanh Hai commune, Thanh Phu district, Ben Tre province) said that he has switched to raising white-leg shrimp using high technology for more than ten years. Initially, he only carried out the model on an area of 7 hectares, but now he has developed the model to nearly 50 hectares. After deducting costs, the profit is from 30 - 40 billion VND/year.
Mr. Sam said that his high-tech shrimp farming model has invested in net houses, oxygen generators, pond bottom covers, automatic feeding, etc., so the efficiency is many times higher than the previous extensive and semi-intensive farming methods.
According to Mr. Sam, his high-tech shrimp farm has cooperated with a shrimp processing enterprise to build a farming area that meets ASC standards (the most stringent international standards applied to aquaculture, a set of standards based on four main foundations: environment, society, animal welfare and food safety) and sells at a price 5,000 VND/kg higher than the market price.
Mr. Le Van Khoa - National Technical Director of Grobest Industrial Vietnam Co., Ltd. - said that over the past 4 years, the company has deployed 2 farming models Grofarm and Grofarm Pro with solutions to optimize nutrition in intensive white-leg shrimp farming, helping to reduce production costs and protect the environment. Grobest's farming process has helped reduce 10 - 15% of shrimp production costs, reaching about 70,000 VND/kg of finished raw shrimp, creating great competitiveness for Vietnamese shrimp.
Orientation for development of high-tech shrimp farming
According to statistics from the agricultural sector of Ben Tre province, from the initial area of 550 hectares in 2018, by the end of 2024, the whole province had 3,610 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming, with an average yield of 60 - 70 tons/ha of water surface, and an average profit of 700 - 800 million VND/ha/crop. The output of high-tech shrimp farming in Ben Tre province currently accounts for over 58% of the total output of brackish water shrimp farming in the province.
Mr. Chau Huu Tri - Director of the Center for Agricultural Extension and Services of Ben Tre province - said that aquaculture is one of the key economic sectors of Ben Tre province, in which brackish water shrimp farming is the key industry, playing an important role in the economic development of the province. In the structure of aquaculture area of the province, brackish water shrimp farming accounts for over 75%. Recently, brackish water shrimp farmers have rapidly converted from traditional intensive and semi-intensive farming to high-tech shrimp farming in the three districts of Ba Tri, Binh Dai and Thanh Phu. The advantages of this model are closed investment, isolation of the disease environment in the early stages, high-density farming...
Mr. Nguyen Van Buoi - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development - said that Ben Tre is the 5th province in the country in terms of brackish water shrimp farming development with more than 36,000 hectares. The brackish water shrimp farming industry in Ben Tre province has developed strongly since 2000, especially intensive and semi-intensive shrimp farming and most recently high-tech shrimp farming. Despite many ups and downs, the province's shrimp farming industry has maintained a fairly sustainable growth rate. Many high-tech shrimp farming models have brought great efficiency, meeting market demand.
The Resolution of the Congress of the Party Committee of Ben Tre province for the period 2020 - 2025 determined to develop 4,000 hectares of high-tech shrimp farming by 2025. The province also approved the plan to develop the shrimp industry in Ben Tre province for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, as a basis for integration into the agricultural planning plan in the Ben Tre Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.
