According to The Verge, military technology company Anduril, founded by American businessman Palmer Luckey, founder of Oculus - a company considered the " future of virtual reality technology", has announced its first weapons system.
Anduril said its system will turn drones into "flattening bombs" - a type of weapon designed to fly etc. in a designated area before hitting a target in the air or on the ground.
missile attack aircraft have been developed since the 1980s, initially to attack anti-aircraft missile systems. But these aircraft are relatively expensive and limit their target selection - focusing only on electronic radiation or radar.
Now, low-cost drones can be equipped with a machine vision system that allows for more detailed target options.
In the announcement, Anduril did not specify how their flattening bomb system would target. However, the company's drones will have one operator who can control all of the aircraft's activities.
According to a post on the company's blog, their drone systems will easily carry out autonomous coordinated attacks, identify targets and cooperate with teams. At the same time, they can also contain many different warhead options.
For Anduril, this is the first weapon we have developed. And the company currently has a lot of technology weapons development projects, not just each of them, said Chris Brose, the companys chief strategist.
