The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the low pressure area 10a (near the East Sea) that the agency has been monitoring inside the Philippine forecast area (PAR) for the past few days has dissipated at 2:00 a.m. on October 9.
Meanwhile, also at 2:00 a.m. on October 9, the center of the tropical depression outside the PAR forecast area was at about 24.6 degrees north latitude, 148.2 degrees east longitude, 2,735 km east-northeast of Luzon.
The strongest wind near the center of the tropical depression is 55 km/h, gusting to 70 km/h. The tropical depression moves northeast at 15 km/h.
This tropical depression has existed for the past few days. It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the tropical depression will still not be able to enter the PAR forecast area.
PAGASA's Storm/Low Pressure Forecast Bulletin said that during the week of October 14-20, 2024, there is a possibility of a new low pressure area appearing on the eastern edge of the storm forecast area (TCAD - Tropical Cyclone Advisory Domain). This low pressure area is unlikely to strengthen.
PAGASA's weather forecast bulletin said the southwest monsoon period in the Philippines has ended and the country has entered the northeast monsoon period.
On October 9, northeasterly winds affected Northern Luzon. Cloudy skies with scattered showers in the Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Localized thunderstorms were reported in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, with possible flash floods and landslides.
At sea, light to moderate winds and light to moderate seas, with waves 0.6 to 2.5 metres high in coastal areas of most of the country.
Meanwhile, according to the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on October 9, in the eastern sea of the northern East Sea, the central and southern East Sea, the sea from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand, there are showers and thunderstorms.
Forecast for the day and night of October 9, the northern, central and southern areas of the East Sea (including the waters of the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos), the waters from Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have scattered showers and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind of level 7-8.
In addition, on the day and night of October 9, the northeastern sea area of the North East Sea will have strong northeast winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 8; rough seas; waves 2-3m high.
All vessels operating in the above areas are at risk of being affected by tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.
