The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said that the low pressure area 10a (near the East Sea) that the agency has been monitoring inside the Philippine Forecast Area (PAR) for the past few days had dissipated at 2:00 a.m. on October 9.
Meanwhile, also at 2:00 a.m. on October 9, the center of the tropical depression outside the PAR forecast area was at about 24.6 degrees north latitude, 148.2 degrees east longitude, 2,735 km east-northeast of Luzon.
Maximum winds near the center of the tropical depression are 55 km/h, gusting to 70 km/h. The tropical depression is moving northeast at 15 km/h.
The tropical depression has been around for the past few days. It is forecasted that in the next 24 hours, the tropical depression is still unlikely to enter the PAR forecast area.
PAGASA's storm/low pressure forecast bulletin said that during the week of October 14-20, 2024, there is a possibility of a new low pressure area appearing at the eastern edge of the storm forecast area (TCAD - Tropical Cyclone Advisory Domain). This low pressure is unlikely to strengthen.
PAGASA's weather bulletin said that the southwest wind phase in the Philippines has ended and the country has entered the northeast wind phase.
On October 9, the northeast wind will affect the northernmost tip of Luzon. Cloudy weather, scattered rain in the Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Manila and the rest of the country will see localized thunderstorms, with possible flash floods or landslides.
At sea, there will be light to moderate winds and light to moderate seas, with waves 0.6 to 2.5 meters high in coastal areas of most of the country.
Meanwhile, according to the Vietnam National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, on October 9, in the eastern sea of the northern East Sea, the central and southern East Sea, the sea from Quang Tri to Khanh Hoa, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand, there will be showers and thunderstorms.
Forecast for the day and night of October 9, the northern, central and southern East Sea (including the sea areas of Hoang Sa archipelago and Truong Sa), the sea areas from Quang Tri to Ca Mau, Ca Mau to Kien Giang and the Gulf of Thailand will have scattered showers and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes and strong gusts of wind of level 7-8.
In addition, on the day and night of October 9, the northeastern sea area of the North East Sea will have strong northeast winds of level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 8; rough seas; waves 2-3m high.
All ships operating in the above areas are at risk of being affected by tornadoes and strong gusts of wind.
