Solutions to help iPhone save battery when used for long periods

When you have to use an iPhone for a long time without charging conditions, users can adjust some settings to limit battery drain.

Turn on Adaptive Source Mode

This mode can reduce screen brightness, adjust performance and limit background operation. When the battery drains to 20%, the device can also automatically turn on low power mode.

To turn it on, go to Settings > Battery > Power Mode. This feature requires iPhone to be compatible with Apple Intelligence.

Automatically turn on low power supply mode

Users do not necessarily have to wait until the battery is 20% left to turn on battery saving mode. You can set up the iPhone to automatically activate this feature when the battery drops to a certain level.

Open the Shortcuts app, create a new Personal Automation, select Battery level, set the desired battery level and add the action Turn on Low Power Mode.

Turn off Always on screen

The always-on screen can display time, wallpapers, utilities and operate directly even when the iPhone is locked. If you need to prioritize battery life, users can turn off this feature.

Go to Settings > Screen & Brightness > select Always screen on and then turn it off.

If you don't want to turn it off completely, users can only turn off the wallpaper or notifications on the screen that are always on.

Reduce frame rate

Some iPhone models use ProMotion screens with refresh rates up to 120 Hz. Limiting the frame rate to 60 Hz can help reduce battery consumption.

Go to Settings > Support > Motion, then turn on Frame Rate Limit.

Use Dark Mode

With OLED screens, the dark mode can help reduce power consumption because the pixels displaying dark colors use less energy.

Users can go to Settings > Screen & Brightness > select Dark to turn on.

Restrict application access to location

Applications that continuously use the location can increase battery consumption. Users should check and only grant permissions to truly necessary applications.

Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services. Select each application and adjust the access rights.

Turn off Background application refresh

The Background Application Update feature allows applications to update content even when not opened. Turning off this feature for unnecessary applications can help limit battery drain.

Go to Settings > General > Renew apps in the background.

Users can turn it off completely or only allow some necessary applications to refresh in the background.

Reduced notifications and Direct Activities

Notifications can brighten the iPhone screen, while Live Activity continuously updates information on the lock screen.

Go to Settings > Notifications to turn off notifications of unnecessary applications.

Users can also use Focus Mode to only receive notifications from the necessary applications or people in each period of time.

Turn off tactile feedback when typing

Touch feedback creates a slight vibration sensation every time users touch the keyboard. If you want to save more battery, you can turn off this feature.

Go to Settings > Sound & Touch > Keyboard Responses, then turn off Touch Responses.
