When Amazon recruited the founders of AI Adept startup last year, it was considered one of the first back-to-back buybacks. In an interview with The Verge, David Luan - leader of Amazon AGI Labs shared Amazon's vision of AI agents and the buying back trend.
Luan said he wants to be remembered as an AI innovator rather than a creator of special deals. He said it is reasonable for large corporations like Amazon to focus resources on both talent and computing infrastructure at the present time.
Speaking about the reason for leaving Adept to join the Amazon, Luan said he did not want to turn Adept into a company that only sells small models. His goal is to focus on solving the remaining four key research problems of general artificial intelligence (AGI).
According to Luan, each research cluster requires billions of USD in operational resources. If he does not join the Amazon, he will have a hard time fulfilling this ambition.
