Google has just made a public security commitment to reassure iPhone users, after the company confirmed a large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) cooperation agreement with Apple related to the Gemini model.
This move takes place in the context of many concerns surrounding the possibility that Apple user data may be shared to Google's ecosystem.
In a rare joint statement, Apple and Google affirmed that although Gemini models will be used to enhance Siri's capabilities, the Apple Intelligence platform will continue to operate completely within Apple's current security framework.
Accordingly, iPhone user data will not be transferred to systems directly managed by Google.
The announcement was posted by Google on its official blog, emphasizing that Apple Intelligence will continue to operate on Apple devices and through the proprietary Cloud Compute system controlled by Apple.
This means that AI requirements, even with support from Gemini, still follow security and privacy standards that have long been Apple's highlights.
The announcement was made not long after Apple confirmed that Google's Gemini will play an important role in providing capabilities for the more personalized Siri version, expected to be launched later this year.
This is the first time Apple and Google have jointly issued a joint statement to clarify the nature of cooperation, showing the sensitivity and importance of the agreement.
According to the two companies, this cooperation relationship has been prepared for many years. The next generation of Apple Foundation models will be based on Gemini technology and Google's cloud infrastructure, and combined with Apple Foundation models developed by Apple itself.
Apple said it had evaluated many different options before deciding Gemini was the most suitable platform to support internal AI systems.
A key point emphasized by Apple and Google is that Apple Intelligence does not operate like a chatbot based entirely on the cloud.
Most AI tasks will be processed directly on the device, only complex requests will be transferred to Apple's own cloud system.
Previously, Apple affirmed that this architecture allows the deployment of advanced AI without storing or keeping user personal data.
This collaboration follows Apple's introduction of Apple Intelligence at WWDC 2024, with a series of features such as: Announcement Summary, Writing Tool, Image Playground and Genmoji.
In May 2025, Apple admitted that the release of the new Siri was slower than initially planned. Recent reports indicate that this version may appear with iOS 26.4, expected to be released around April.
According to CNBC, the agreement between Apple and Google is long-term, although financial terms and technical details are not disclosed. Within the framework of cooperation, Apple continues to develop "homegrown" AI, while taking advantage of Gemini's foundational strength to promote future improvements.
It's a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit of a bit.
