Google has just announced a series of new updates for the search engine integrating artificial intelligence (AI), the most notable of which is the addition of community discussions from Reddit and many online forums to search results.
According to Google, this change aims to help the search experience become closer and more dialogue-oriented, instead of just displaying traditional website links as before.
The new feature has now appeared in Google's AI Search and AI Overview Modes. When users search for a topic, the AI system can display additional sections such as "Community Opinion" or "Expert Advice", synthesize content from Reddit, public forums and other online communities.
In many cases, AI will display both usernames, community names or content creators to help users know the origin of the cited information.
Google said that the goal of this change is to help users access more realistic perspectives, especially with questions related to personal experiences, product usage advice or life issues.
The above move reflects the increasingly clear trend of Google in turning search engines into highly interactive AI assistants, instead of just a place to display website lists.
In addition to adding community content, Google also introduced a new feature called Explore More. This feature allows AI to automatically propose related questions or expanded topics based on the user's initial query.
For example, if users search for phones or travel, AI can suggest additional sub-topics such as practical reviews, usage experiences, or frequently asked questions for users to continue exploring.
Google said this feature is designed to encourage users to learn more deeply about a topic instead of just reading a short answer.
In addition, the company also changed the way links are displayed in AI responses. Instead of inserting small links in the middle of the text, the links will now be displayed more prominently and easier to recognize.
On computers, when users click on a link, Google will display a preview tag with a website name or page title. According to the company, this helps users better understand where the link will lead before clicking on it.
Google also adds the "Registered" label to articles from publishers that users are paying for. These contents can be prioritized for higher display in AI Search and AI Overview.
Observers believe that the new updates show that Google is striving to reshape the future of search with AI, combining information from traditional websites, community opinions and real-world experiences from users to create a more interactive search ecosystem.
