With this update, users can interact with the map application using natural dialogue, completely free while driving.
For example, you could ask, Is there any Japanese restaurant that is affordable on my route, within a few kilometers?. After Gemini answers, you can ask more about the parking lot or the favorite dish at that location. When you have chosen where you want to go, just say Oke, go there, Gemini will automatically start pointing you.
Gemini can also do other things without leaving Maps, such as adding events to the calendar if users allow an app connection. In addition, you can report a traffic incident by voice, for example, Flooded in front or Having an accident.
The Gemini feature in Google Maps will be rolled out in the coming weeks on Android and iOS in all supported regions and will soon be available on Android Auto.
The update also helps Maps automatically report traffic incidents even when users are not in navigation mode.
Integrating Gemini into Google Maps shows Google's ambition to turn this AI assistant into a control center for its entire ecosystem. Not only stopping at looking up directions, users can now interact, search and handle work right on the journey, all with a natural voice.
This is considered an important step forward to help Maps become a true smart companion on every journey.
