Google's Gemini artificial intelligence (AI) application could soon undergo a comprehensive "transformation" to increase visualitability and user appeal.
This move is considered a strategic step in the context of OpenAI's recent success with the video editing application Sora, currently leading the App Store rankings in the US.
According to information from the Android Authority website, Google is testing a completely new user interface for Gemini on the Android operating system.
Instead of the familiar chatbot layout, the application is redesigned as a feed data source with intuitive suggestions and eye-catching images.
These changes have not been officially announced, but a reversal engineer has discovered and activated a new home screen from the application's source code.
In the testing interface, shortcutts such as "Create Image" or "Intensive Research" are moved to a more noticeable location, right above the data source.
Below, users will find many creative suggestions such as Moving me to a deep space, Give me a classic or dusty look or Turn my painting into a story.
These suggestions are designed with colorful backgrounds, not only inspiring but also guiding users on how to exploit Gemini's AI more effectively.
A Google spokesperson said when asked: "No announcements have been made at this time."
However, analysts say that the redesign can help Gemini attract more users, especially in the image segment, which is a fiercely competitive trend.
The big difference with this new direction is that Google is moving from a conversation-oriented app to an intuitive, inspiring, and exploratory experience.
This could be an advantage to compete with OpenAI's ChatGPT, which has a minimalist interface and few visual elements at launch.
In addition, the improvement in the interface also helps Google take advantage of the appeal of the AI Nano Banana image model, which took Gemini to the No. 1 spot on the App Store rankings in September.
The app held steady in the top spot until it was overthrown by Sora.
If widely released, this change will not only open a new chapter for Gemini but also demonstrate Google's determination to increase competitiveness against the rapidly exploding AI rivals.
