Vietnam fully owns the international cable line for the first time
According to VNPT, the VSTN international land cable line has a total length of about 3,900 km, passing through 5 countries: Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore. The cable line is directly connected from VNPT's Technical Center in Da Nang to major data centers in the region such as IDC Telehouse (Thailand), MY01 Cyberjaya and Equinix JH01 Johor Bahru (Malaysia), Equinix and Global switch (Singapore).

Unlike previous underwater cable lines, VSTN is completely controlled by Vietnamese people - from investment, deployment, operation to incident handling. Proactively controlling the entire route not only helps improve safety, but also increases the ability to respond quickly to technical incidents.
In the context of continuous incidents on sea cables (an average of more than 10 times per year from 2022), VSTN has become a strategic backup route to help reduce the load and ensure international connection quality.
In terms of technology, VSTN uses a modern DWDM transmission system with each wave step reaching a minimum of 300 Gbps, a total designed capacity of 4 Tbps and can be upgraded to 12 Tbps. VNPT considers this a pioneering cable line, in line with the growing demand for bandwidth in the digital age.
Vietnam's digital infrastructure aims to be proactive, smart and sustainable
Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung highly appreciated VNPT's pioneering efforts when for the first time a Vietnamese enterprise completely owned an international land cable line. He emphasized: "The opening of the VSTN cable line is not only a technical breakthrough but also demonstrates a strong industrialist spirit in building Vietnam's digital infrastructure".
According to the Minister, the formation of a trans-ASEAN land cable hosted by Vietnam is a testament to a connected ASEAN and a proactive Vietnam. Mr. Hung expects that the national digital infrastructure will develop in the direction of "super-wide infrastructure, super-large capacity, popularity, intelligence, open technology, safety, sustainability and green". The Minister also affirmed that when telecommunications become the foundation of the digital economy, diversifying connectivity, especially on land routes with the ability to recover quickly, becomes a mandatory requirement.

VNPT General Director Huynh Quang Liem said that VSTN is the result of a capacity accumulation process for more than a decade. Since 2009, VNPT has participated in the AAG sea cable line, then developed Vinasat-1 and Vinasat-2 satellite systems and expanded to participate in 5 international sea cable lines, raising the total exploitation capacity to nearly 36 Tbps.
Mr. Liem affirmed that the VSTN cable line will continue to be expanded, connecting more POP points in Laos, Thailand, and Malaysia to form a leading stable and safe transmission line in Southeast Asia. At the same time, this is also a foundation to help improve the reliability of Vietnam's international network system in the digital age.
This is not only a technical milestone, but also demonstrates a strategic vision in proactively creating telecommunications infrastructure. With VSTN, Vietnam enters a new phase: not only using but also mastering and leading regional digital infrastructure.
