Viettel's mark on smart transportation in Vietnam
Currently, Viettel Solutions (a member of Viettel Group) is pioneering the deployment of more than 40 intelligent operation center (IOC) systems in provinces and cities across the country. The intelligent traffic monitoring and control system is one of the subsystems that localities have given special priority to develop.
In Hanoi, the Intelligent Transport System is being tested from July 2024. The functions of the intelligent transport system in the pilot phase include traffic monitoring system; providing traffic information; traffic control; supporting the handling of traffic safety violations; public transport management; incident management; traffic infrastructure management; parking management; and management of public transport electronic ticket payments.
With cameras that support traffic violation fines, traffic flow measurement, speed monitoring, VMS (Video Management and Intelligent Image Analysis) traffic information signs, etc., the system can monitor traffic conditions, record violations, detect emerging situations and issue warnings.
Up to now, with the pioneering commercialization of 5G network, Viettel's 5G2B (5G to Business) ecosystem is ready, promising to bring comprehensive changes to smart transportation.
Viettel's 5G2B ecosystem contributes to sustainable transportation development
To date, Viettel's 5G has covered 100% of the capitals of 63/63 provinces and cities. With a maximum speed of 20Gb/s downlink and 10Gb/s uplink, latency can reach 1ms with 99.999% reliability, 5G infrastructure allows the application of 4.0 technologies into daily life, including the transportation sector.
Smart transportation is a key factor in creating sustainable transportation for people and management. Modern traffic infrastructure with a large number of camera systems, monitoring sensors, traffic lights and notice boards collect real-time traffic data transmitted via 5G connection to the intelligent traffic system for analysis, helping to issue warnings and develop traffic assurance plans for the operating unit.
For example, with adaptive traffic control, 5G technology allows all high-definition image data from the city's camera system to be transmitted in real time with super low latency to the centralized AI processor. In addition, the traffic control center can also provide scenarios for priority traffic signals, traffic flow when there are events, priority convoys, etc. in real time.
The ecosystem of IoT (Internet of Things) devices along with the IOC digital brain using AI technology allows automatic measurement, classification of vehicles, evaluation to predict traffic jams or suggest corrective measures. Monitoring and penalizing violating vehicles in a fair and transparent manner will contribute to raising awareness of traffic participants.
One of the prominent 5G applications in smart transportation with great potential in the future in Vietnam is self-driving cars and remote vehicle control. Self-driving cars with 5G connectivity not only move but can also communicate with each other and with the traffic system, helping to reduce accidents and congestion.
5G promises to bring many improvements to the logistics industry
The advent of 5G and Viettel’s 5G2B ecosystem can create a turning point in the transportation and logistics sectors. Application solutions, designed based on existing “pain points”, create breakthrough changes, contributing to increasing logistics complex productivity by up to 50%.
For example, in the port sector, the Crane Remote Control application allows remote control of cranes instead of a 30-40m high cockpit. Autonomous vehicle systems in ports and warehouses can increase transportation productivity and reduce labor costs. Similarly, railway systems and airports can also optimize productivity, safety and passenger satisfaction by using smart systems based on 5G technology.
