More than 65,000 cyberattacks per day in Vietnam in 2025

NGUYỄN ĐĂNG |

In 2025, Vietnam recorded more than 65,000 cyberattacks, according to the latest data released by Kaspersky Security Network (KSN) on March 12.

According to KSN, in 2025, their cybersecurity solutions blocked a total of 23,839,322 online threats targeting users in Vietnam. On average, this number is equivalent to more than 65,000 Internet attacks per day throughout the year.

Overall, 23.1% of users in Vietnam have faced online threats in 2025. Accordingly, Vietnam ranks 78th globally in terms of exposure to online threats.

Online threats are cyberattacks exploiting vulnerabilities in browsers, plugins and online platforms to spread malware or other malicious content. The most common attack techniques are automatic downloads when accessing malicious websites and social engineering-based attacks.

When users accessed hacked websites, malware could be automatically downloaded and infect the device without any user intervention. This form of attack is called automatic download.

Meanwhile, social technology-based attacks exploit the psychology and subjectivity of users, using tricks to lure users to download malicious files "disguised" as legitimate applications, creating a sense of trust such as fake emails, fraudulent websites or misleading advertisements.

In Southeast Asia, the level of exposure to online threats has a clear differentiation between markets. The Philippines recorded the highest rate, with 32.9% of users affected, ranking 6th globally.

Next is Malaysia with 26.7%, ranked 42nd globally and Vietnam ranked 78th globally, with 23.1%. Meanwhile, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand have lower exposure rates, respectively 22.4%, 21.2% and 20.3%.

Although the rate in Vietnam is lower than in some countries in the region, the fact that nearly a quarter of users still face online risks is still a noteworthy figure. This shows that building solid online security barriers is becoming more urgent than ever.

Recommendations

To cope with online threats, especially in 2026, Kaspersky has made many recommendations.

For individual users

- Do not download and install applications from unreliable sources; at the same time, always update the software to the latest version to ensure optimal security.

- Do not provide detailed information to strangers for any reason.

- Do not click on links from unidentified sources or suspicious online advertisements.

- Create a strong and unique password, including lowercase, uppercase, numbers and special characters; at the same time, activate the two-factor authentication method

- Use reliable network security solutions suitable for systems and devices.

With organizations, businesses

- Use strong passwords when accessing business services and apply multifactor authentication (MFA) methods to remote access services.

- Always update software on all devices to prevent attackers from exploiting system intrusion vulnerabilities.

- Deploy reliable solutions to monitor and handle network security incidents in real time.

- Access Threat Intelligence to understand the tactics, techniques and processes (TTP) of attack agents, thereby preparing better to prevent risks.

- Train employees on network security practice methods to reduce the risk of being attacked by fraudulent methods based on social techniques.

- Use modern tools to raise cybersecurity awareness for the staff.

- Equip the team of experts with information about the latest dangers to proactively have response scenarios.
