According to Engadget, Apple is reducing the editing and undoing of the pre-recorded iMessage features in iOS 16.
The company has released a beta for the fourth developer of iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura.
In this update, Apple will limit you to five edits for a certain message within 15 minutes and reduce the review window from 15 minutes to just two. You can also click on a message to see its editing history - you would only see a notification that it has been edited.
The company did not explain the decision. However, Apple insider has highlighted the possibility of users overusing the feature. someone else may edit the message to make it look like you have agreed to something. They can take turns harassing you by sending messages long enough to get noticed, but disappear before you can keep the evidence.
You can always prevent edits and Delets by turning off iMessage. That forces conversations to shift to SMS messages, where those features are not available. Apple's moves won't completely prevent harassment, but it can encourage you to bat iMessage without fear that someone can easily change your conversation.
