On June 19, in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC), Ministry of Science and Technology organized the VNNIC Internet Conference 2026 with the theme "Deploying IPv6-Only - Driving force for national digital infrastructure development". The event gathered more than 400 domestic and international Internet leaders and experts to discuss the roadmap for IPv6-Only transformation and the development of new generation Internet infrastructure.
Speaking at the opening of the conference, Mr. Nguyen Truong Giang - Acting Director of the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) - said that digital infrastructure is becoming an essential platform for the development of the digital economy, digital society and digital government.
According to Mr. Giang, the strong development of artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT) and digital services are posing new requirements for the Internet infrastructure. This infrastructure not only needs to ensure connectivity but also has the ability to expand, operate sustainably, safely and be ready for the future.
In that context, IPv6 is identified as the core platform of the new generation Internet.
After more than a decade of promoting the deployment of IPv6, Vietnam has achieved many positive results. Currently, more than 67% of Internet users in Vietnam access the network through IPv6, with tens of millions of regular users every day. Internet infrastructure, telecommunications networks, digital platforms and major online services in the country are basically ready for IPv6.

These results are proof of effective coordination between state management agencies, telecommunications enterprises, technology enterprises and the Vietnamese Internet technical community," Mr. Nguyen Truong Giang emphasized.
However, according to VNNIC leaders, the Internet development process does not stop at the deployment of IPv6. In the world, the trend of shifting to the IPv6-Only environment is becoming increasingly clear as network operators, service providers and international Internet organizations gradually eliminate dependence on IPv4.
The IPv6-Only model is assessed to help simplify network architecture, improve operating performance, enhance safety, reduce management costs and create new development space for data, digital services as well as innovation.
Grasping that trend, Vietnam has issued the Program to promote the deployment and transformation of IPv6-Only for the period 2026-2030, aiming to synchronously transform the national Internet infrastructure and strengthen integration with the global Internet ecosystem.
According to the Organizing Committee, 2026 is considered a pivotal period when ending the IPv6 transformation journey in the 2021-2025 period and opening up a period of accelerating the deployment of IPv6-Only nationwide.
At the conference, many international experts from the Asia-Pacific Regional Network Information Center (APNIC), the Malaysian Multimedia and Communications Commission (MCMC) and international Internet organizations shared experiences on the IPv6-Only deployment strategy, new generation Internet development trends and opportunities from the transition process.
The focus of the conference is a high-level seminar on "IPv6-Only Transformation - National Roadmap Implementation Solutions", focusing on discussing technical solutions, coordination mechanisms and implementation experiences to realize the goal of IPv6-Only in Vietnam.
Within the framework of the event, in the afternoon of the same day, there was also an exhibition introducing technology products, solutions and Internet infrastructure of many domestic and international businesses.
Notably, VNNIC announced a set of criteria to measure the level of IPv6-Only conversion for agencies, organizations and businesses. This is considered a basis for evaluating the progress of deployment on the service network, and at the same time supporting the development of a roadmap for implementing the goals of the Vietnam IPv6-Only Program in the 2026-2030 period.
According to VNNIC, IPv6-Only is not only the next development step of the Internet but also a platform to meet the connection and operational requirements of strategic technologies such as AI, big data, cloud computing, IoT and 5G/6G networks, thereby creating momentum for the development of national digital infrastructure in the new stage.
