The US multinational technology corporation - Qualcomm has just announced the new Snapdragon C processor platform for popular laptop lines, marking a new step in its strategy to expand the cheap AI computer market.
This chip is aimed at students, households and small businesses with priority on battery life, mobility and the ability to handle daily tasks.
According to Qualcomm, Snapdragon C is designed for laptop models with a starting price of about 300 USD. Instead of focusing on high-end performance, the new platform aims for stable usage experience in basic needs such as web browsing, watching online videos, working with office applications and video calling online.
The noteworthy point of Snapdragon C is its power saving capability. Qualcomm said that this processor can help thin and light laptops maintain battery life all day, while keeping the machine operating cooler and quieter during use.
This is considered an important factor for mobile learners and workers.
In addition, Snapdragon C is also integrated with an NPU processor, allowing support for AI features that are increasingly popular on personal computers.
Qualcomm said that integrating AI into the low-cost laptop segment will help many users access new technologies that previously mainly appeared on high-end devices.
The US technology company also said that many major manufacturers such as Acer, HP and Lenovo are developing laptop models using Snapdragon C and are expected to launch them later this year.
Mr. Kedar Kondap, Senior Vice President and General Director of Computing and Gaming Division of Qualcomm, said that the company is targeting customers who want to own devices at reasonable prices but still meet the modern computing experience.
The launch of Snapdragon C also shows Qualcomm's ambition to expand the Windows computer ecosystem using the Arm architecture.
In recent years, Arm processors no longer only appear on smartphones but are gradually expanding to laptops and AI PC devices.
Analysts believe that if Snapdragon C meets the actual performance and battery life as announced by Qualcomm, the cheap AI laptop market may become more vibrant in the near future.
