"Although the whole market continues to have a strong year of growth, driven by the transition to Windows 11 and the need to replace new devices, the results for each region show different stories," said Jean Philippe Bouchard, Research Vice President of IDC Worldwide Mobile Device trackers.
For example, in the North American market, due to the impact of US import tariffs, the growth rate is only 1% compared to the same period last year. In contrast, the personal computer market in the Asia-Pacific (including Japan and China) recorded double-digit growth - 14%.
Demand is largely driven by Japanese hardware upgrades related to the suspension of Windows 10 support and the GIGA education project, said Maciek Gornicki, senior research director at IDC Worldwide Device trackers. Growth outside Japan is more modest hampered by macroeconomic and political challenges as well as slow Windows 11 adoption despite opportunities from upgrading hardware for devices purchased during and before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lenovo ranked No. 1 in terms of personal computers sold from July to September 2025, with 19.4 million units, accounting for 25.5% of the global market share. The next positions belong to Apple (6.8 million units) and Asus (5.9 million units). The remaining companies such as Acer, Gigabyte, LG... sold 18.6 million units, accounting for 24.5% of the market share.
