The personal computer and tablet market in China grows strongly

NGUYỄN ĐĂNG |

In the first quarter of 2025, the number of PCs (personal computers) in mainland China (excluding tablets) increased by 12%, shipping 8.9 million units.

This is the latest statistic released by Market Research Company Canalys. Table tennis recorded even higher growth with shipments growing 19% compared to the previous year, reaching a total of 8.7 million units.

Consumer demand for devices is driven by government subsidies, strongly promoting device upgrades. In the future, the PC market in mainland China is expected to stabilize in 2025 and grow back 6% in 2026. Meanwhile, the tablet market is expected to grow by 5% this year before falling by 8% in 2026.

PC customer segments in mainland China have faced various problems in the first quarter of 2025. The PC market for consumers still maintains a strong growth momentum, mainly thanks to government subsidies. Consumer PC shipments recorded annual growth of up to 20%.

However, the PC segment for businesses has grown more slowly. PC shopping activities of large enterprises remain unchanged, while the SMB segment (small and medium enterprises) finally showed signs of a modest recovery, recording a 2% increase after 11 consecutive quarters of decline.

The PC market in general in mainland China is forecast to remain stable in 2025, as the impact of consumer subsidies gradually decreases. PCs in the SMB and public sectors are expected to grow by 4% and 1% respectively, as investment in information technology is improved and the government conducts PC innovation plans.
