Meta has just announced a partnership with Midjourney to license image and video creation technology using artificial intelligence (AI). This information was shared by Meta's AI Director - Alexandr Wang on Threads. Accordingly, Meta's research groups will integrate Midjourney's technology into future AI models and products.
To bring the best products to users, Meta needs a comprehensive approach, from a team of top talent, strong calculation presentation to cooperation with pioneering companies in the industry, Wang emphasized.
Joining hands with Midjourney could help Meta compete directly with AI image and video creation products such as Sora ( OpenAI), flux (Black Forest Lab) or Veo ( Google). Previously, Meta developed Imagine photo creation tools on Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and developed Movie Gen that allowed creating videos from text.
This is the latest dynamic state in Meta's strategic expanded AI. Earlier this year, CEO Mark Zuckerberg had the ability to recruit a talent with gifts of more than 100 million USD, while investing 14 billion USD on an AI scale and acquiring the voice startup Play AI. Meta has negotiated to buy Midjourney and even discussed with Elon Musk about participating in the $97 billion OpenAI acquisition deal, but in the end did not participate.
The collaboration with Meta forums took place just 2 months after Midjourney arrived at Disney and Universal, and the copyrighted product was used by the team to train the model. Like many other AI companies, Meta is also facing similar situations, but some recent judgments have favored technology businesses.
