Meta launches AI-powered voiceover feature on Reels

Meta has just deployed a new dubbing feature on Reels, using generative AI to shift voice and with option for silhouette synchronization.

Mark Zuckerberg introduced the feature at the Meta Connect 2024 event.

In the initial phase, the tool only supports translations between English and Spanish. Meta said it will soon expand to many other languages. On Facebook, only creators with 1,000 or more followers are allowed to use it, but any public Instagram account can experience it.

This technology will analyze the original voice, create translations that retain the same nuance and tone, and then insert them into the video.

Users can listen to it before posting, and the audience will see a notification that this is an AI version. Meta recommends the most suitable feature for live-fire videos, avoid covering your mouth or background music too much. The tool supports maximum two speakers, but is not effective if the lines overlap.

According to Meta, the goal is to help creators expand their audience beyond the original language. The system also integrates an effective tracking board for each language.

YouTube has previously released a similar tool, while Apple has also added a live translator feature to Messages, Phone, and FaceTime on iOS 26.
