Technology giant Meta Platforms is preparing an ambitious step to expand into the consumer hardware sector focusing on artificial intelligence (AI).
According to an internal memorandum revealed by The Information, the company is outlining a long-term strategy to position itself at the center of the rapidly developing AI ecosystem, beyond the scope of traditional mobile phone screens.
The focus of this new hardware roadmap is a unique AI production line. This is a wearable device around the neck, acting as a voice-based digital assistant.
Although the technical specifications, cameras or sensors included have not been revealed by Meta, the device is expected to bring a personalized, mobile and always ready-to-connect AI experience.
In addition, the memorandum also mentions the "Wearable Devices for Work" initiative aimed at corporate customers.
This is seen as an effort to improve financial performance for Reality Labs, Meta's hardware division that is suffering heavy losses.
This step is completely in line with the general trend of the technology industry, when personal assistants without screens and multi-mode interfaces controlled by AI are becoming fertile ground for hunting.
To realize this vision, Meta has made careful preparations in both technology and infrastructure.
Previously, the company had achieved certain success with Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses integrating cameras, speakers and virtual assistants.
In particular, the foundation for the new AI production line seems to be strongly strengthened after Meta acquired Limitless in 2025.
This is a famous startup with a $99 neck clip device, capable of recording, transcribing and using generative AI to summarize meetings.
At the time of the merger, CEO of Limitless - Dan Siroker once affirmed that the two companies shared a vision for developing "super personal intelligence" on smart wearable devices.
This deal is a clear signal that Meta wants to break through, expanding its influence beyond the existing smart glass line to build a comprehensive AI hardware ecosystem.
Currently, Meta has not yet made official comments or announced the specific launch time for this AI production line.
However, in the context of increasingly fierce competition with heavy competitors such as Google, Apple and OpenAI, Meta's acceleration of wearable device development is inevitable to avoid being left behind.
