Meta is testing a premium version of the messaging application WhatsApp, called WhatsApp Plus, with some paid features.
This version mainly focuses on upgrading the interface experience. Registered users will have access to premium sticker sets with special effects, while customizing the theme and application icons.
In addition, WhatsApp Plus allows recording up to 20 conversations, setting separate ringtones for each contact and personalizing chat lists with warnings, notifications and a separate interface.
Currently, Meta is still continuing to test new features for this paid package and has not announced the official price.
Notably, basic features such as texting, voice calling or end-to-end encryption are still kept free.
The WhatsApp Plus test shows that Meta is looking for more revenue from premium services, instead of just relying on advertising as before.
In the context of increasing competition in the messaging application market, the strategy of charging for additional features can help Meta increase revenue, while retaining a group of users willing to pay for deeper personalized experiences.
