Microsoft has just quietly released a free version of Office with ads for users to access applications such as Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Although there are some limitations, using Microsoft 365 Online is the only way to experience free apps. Microsoft is testing a new service as a replacement, however, the company has not yet announced an official plan for this free version.

Accordingly, from PCWorld, this Office version is in a limited trial and is not yet available on Microsoft's official website. Each application in this free Office set displays a large bill of rights on the right of the window and plays a 15-second video that is turned off every few hours.

Similar to the web version, users can only save files to OneDrive. copying a file from OneDrive to local storage is simple, but will require another step to encourage users to register for Microsoft 365 Premium. The locked features in the paid version include smart suggestions, additional utilities, and data analytics.

Thus, users who want to test the advertising support version can find a hidden download page on the Microsoft Office website. Although this version only supports Windows, macOS enthusiasts can also use it for a trial experience.

Currently, Microsoft has no plans to release this full version of Office, so it is still unclear whether the company will remove the trial download in the future.

The official way to use Office Office online without registering is through the independent paid version released by Microsoft in 2024. Office 2024 is currently available for PC and macOS for $160, while Office 2021 is being sold for $70.

Although both versions provide similar basic features, Office 2024 includes performance optimization features and will continue to receive updates.
