Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 17 series in September 2025, most notably the screen will be upgraded to a frequency of 120 Hz for the iPhone 17 and 17 Air models.
This is considered one of the anticipated steps, expanding the smooth display experience from the Pro versions to the standard line.
However, they wont integrate ProMotion technology a Adaptive Refresh Rate file that ranges from 1 Hz to 120 Hz.
The upgrade to 120 Hz helps bring a rolling, zoom photo and transition feel much smoother than the traditional 60- Hz freshness. However, due to the use of a fixed LTPS panel, the screens of the iPhone 17 and 17 Air will not be as efficient at saving energy as the LTPO panel used in the Pro.
This may affect the battery, especially the 17 Air model, which is predicted to have modest battery capacity.
Meanwhile, the Pro (17 Pro and 17 Pro Max) models will still have a high-end experience with LTPO panel and the ability to flexibly adjust the scanning frequency. This is another way for Apple to clearly distinguish between models that suit different user needs and wallets.
In addition to the screen, the iPhone 17 is also expected to have a refined design with a smaller Dynamic Island range, a new-generation A18/A19 chip, RAM 8-12 GB and a 24-MP Selfie camera. However, the screen has been upgraded to a scanning frequency of 120 Hz, which is still the most attractive feature for popular users.
