Spotify has long caused a lot of controversy, both likes and complaints. Favored for features like Spotify Jam - allowing real-time music listening with friends, very convenient and fun. But many people also complain because the music suggestion system of this platform often repeats familiar, lackluster new songs.
To improve, Spotify is testing a new feature: Allowing listeners to choose more specific music styles in their playlist. For example, in the R&B music playlist, a Reddit user has seen buttons like discovering more, Modern style R&B, pop- mixed R&B,.... When selected, the entire list will be updated with other songs, instead of just filtering from the old list.
Currently, this feature only appears in some playback lists by genre and has not been widely rolled out. However, experimental users reviewed it positively because they were suggested more new songs.
Spotify responded, We regularly testing new features to enhance the user experience. Some will be widely applied, some are only experimental. We currently have no new information to share.
Since this could be a limited experiment, not everyone is seeing this new feature. While waiting, users can try turning off the Smart Shuffle feature to make music exploration richer.
